  1. Glutton for punishment, ain't ya? I opted to install an intonatable TonePros wraparound on my Studio, mainly for The Look™ (the non-intonatable thing is more appropriate for a Junior type guitar IMO). Only issue with it is it has a very high profile; I have it screwed all the way down to the body, and the action is just right for me, but might be too high for most folks:

  3. In my mind, Hamer has always been associated with Paul (what with the name and logo and all). To me, Jol's departure simply means a complete and final disassociation with the past. How that will affect the direction of the brand and the quality of the guitars moving forward remains to be seen. So who's going to be the first to step up and order a new Californian?
  4. What I want to know is, will this thread get more replies than the Taylor Swift one?
  5. Yes, you are! I was going by the "across a smokey bar" principle.
  6. Well right, the headstocks and bridges were different. Everything else looked exact to me. Certainly more so than a TLE or a Vintage S.
  7. What I never understood was the bolt-on strategy in the '90s. I can understand moving away from Floyd-ed shredders due to market demand, but what was the point of making dead-nuts copies of Strats and Teles?
  8. Maybe if he's holding a guitar AND two snifters of cognac?
  9. I cordially invite you to ..... ah nevermind.

  11. In addition to the wording being a dead giveaway, always be suspicious of responses that don't specifically mention your item in the text.
  12. Yeah, the bit about the HFC comprising the entirety of Hamer buyers/players out there is rather myopic. The bit about the value of Gibson in the marketplace has less to do with stupidity and more to do with branding and marketing. I've certainly spouted off often about what I perceive to be Hamer's failures in this area, so no need to do so again. But the last time I was at BadgerDave's I perused a few issues of Guitar Aficionado Magazine and noticed some pretty prominent Hamer placements, which IMO is a very effective marketing strategy, given Hamer's current direction. For me, a custom order is not possible because I can't afford one, and doesn't make sense because I need to bond with a guitar physically before I know it's a keeper. While the likelihood of being able to do so sight unseen with a custom Hamer is probably near 100%, it's a chance I wouldn't be willing to take, given the hit I'd have to absorb on resale if I didn't bond with it. Sure, I've purchased plenty of new and used off-the-rack guitars over the years without having played them first, but they were all under the $1K mark and/or purchased for market value or below, so I could come close to recouping my investment (if not turn a small profit) if I decided to move them along. I could care less about the resale value of the ones I have bonded with, because they're not going anywhere.
  13. No, but it might be time to write Platzer's obituary as a Hamer dealer.
  14. Perfectly stated.
  15. Yes you can. And I am a professional.
  16. I'm down with that. My Marshall Artist 3203 is a SS pre/tube power hybrid. A poor man's JCM800 for sure. I think what we're gonna see is mostly original band guys in this thread and cover band guys in the SS thread.
  17. I've owned a few SS amps over the years (Fender London Reverb, Fender Roc Pro, Line6 Duoverb) and heard many more. Nothing delivers the dynamic testicular fortitude of a tube amplifier. Who else will plug into a tray of glowing glass until they die?
  18. Perhaps the definitive statement on this topic: http://www.youtubedoubler.com/?video1=http...UIo&start2=
  19. I'll contend that a lot of it boils down to a jealousy thing ("why are THEY making all that cash when my band/this other band is just as good if not better?") and a disdain for their fan base ("only a douchebag would be really into Nickelback."). I'll plead guilty on both counts. Chad Kroeger also has a habit of coming off as extremely creepy when he's trying to be sexy (for example, the lyrics to "Animals," "Figured You Out" and "Something In Your Mouth"). I will say that I enjoy the song "Someday" and Kroeger has by far the coolest crib I've ever seen on "Cribs."
  20. Also, speaking as a patron, the longer the band is idle, the more time I have to get used to conversing and listening to the jukebox, so when the band goes back on, I'm actually a little bit annoyed.
  21. I'm not buying what you say in the second sentence I quoted, based on what you said in the first sentence I quoted. Hamer has pretty much established that they do what they want first and what the market allegedly wants second.
