  1. Probably the intro to the Hollies' "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" that was on a K-Tel compilation album my mom bought for me.
  2. I once broke up with a girl by writing out those lyrics in their entirety and putting them under one of the windshield wipers of her car. That remains one of the coolest things I've ever done. Indeed. Indeed x2. I've always loved this line of his: "She wanted it hard, she wanted it fast, she liked it done medium rare."
  3. Monster Magnet and Corrosion of Conformity about 10 years ago was a good'un.
  4. It's called "Marketing." +1 I'd find it more offensive if Clapton, the Allman estate or anyone else for that matter sought to copyright (and thus receive residuals from the use of) common words like "crossroad," "dark" or "burst."
  5. I haven't had a Dr. Pepper in ages. I'm gonna do the same. Have a good one fellas!
  6. It never is.
  7. Yes !! Did anyone else notice that Strat was the exact same configuration - the 2 white EMGs, 1 HB, 1 single and a floyd ??? Makes you wonder if Prince rejected the Hamer because the color was "too obvious."
  8. My old Soldano HR50 did this on its own better than anything else I've ever used.
  9. A glitch like the singer crashing his drunk ass into a tree on the way to the stadium? Some of the spooks on other message boards have been commenting all day about audible pitch correction during Joel's performance, but I haven't heard it myself to confirm.
  10. +1 They're like exercise equipment in that regard.
  11. Reading the "critiques" of Prince's halftime performance posted on other boards (HC, TGP) makes me: 1. Thankful for this board 2. Ashamed to call myself a guitar player when so many ridiculous assholes can do the same
  12. The pentatonic scale = sex, swagger and balls. Add a little delay (or maybe a lot LOL) and it's positively epic.
  13. Well I didn't get a chance to personally play it last night (fortunately we had plenty of real bass players in the house, so I wasn't pressed into duty) but everyone who took a crack at it had nothing but raves. Another step toward converting all these young guys I jam with into Hamer fans!
  14. Side 2 of Thin Lizzy's "Live and Dangerous": "Dancing in the Moonlight," "Massacre," "Still In Love With You," "Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed".
  15. And you say you bought nothing LOL!
  16. Yeah, on the pricetag it said "List: $895" so that must have been what they had it priced at previously. End of the month purge, perhaps? There was another guitar there (not a Hamer) that had a ridiculously low price on it, but even heavily discounted, it was up over a grand. I successfully resisted temptation, even after a couple beers at Hooters and the relentless enabling of BadgerDave.
  17. Tortoise. A nice color combo but I don't like the shape. The bass looks better with it off IMO.
  18. Yea, position 4 should be neck only. That does not make sense at all. Wouldn't be a Hamer if there wasn't something confounding about it.
  19. Good info Mike! I wonder if the bass came stock this way or if it was an aftermarket mod.
  20. Actually, the bass is kind of a Mary Kay blonde, and it's lighter where the pickguard used to be. Stained by nicotine, perhaps? I might put the guard pack on. We'll see.
  21. So bruce919 and BadgerDave met at the Guitar Center in Merrillville, IN to do a deal on Matt's Gretsch. I got there after Matt left, but Dave and I went in and saw two 2TEK Cruises on the wall for $400 each. The 5 string was pretty beat with a badly bowed neck and a truss rod that was beyond full adjustment, but the 4 string was in very nice shape, so I bought it. I occasionally have to play bass in my jam band, so this is a nice score for me (my other bass is a Squier PJ bass; not bad but certainly nowhere near the Cruise's level of quality). Another bonus was full EMG active electronics. Anyone know if this was ever a stock array? First knob seems to be a master volume. Second one has a center notch, so I'm guessing a pickup pan? Third is a stacked dual pot; no idea what it does, but with the bottom one rolled fully clockwise the bass has a big fat sound that I love. Can anyone give me some insight into exactly what all the controls do? First thing I did when I got home was pull a Jaco and yank the tortoise pickguard; always wondered what these basses looked like nekkid. Looking forward to playing it live tomorrow night.
  22. Stone-washed jeans, no resonant heads on the rack toms, etc.
  23. It's the unfortunate "pants tucked into the boots" combo. Oh wait. You probably mean the amp. Nevermind.
