  1. I left after lunch. Morning was for the most part boooooooring. Bought drumsticks on the way home for the really cool Tama drumkit Santa's bringing my 14-year-old in the wee hours Sunday morning. Now I'm home, getting in the yuletide spirit and getting ready to beat up a Cali...should be some fun posts from me later this evening.
  2. '93 Special FM, amber transparent. Great guitar but I sold it like a dumbass. Ended up getting another '93 Special FM a few years ago because I missed the first one, and sold THAT one like a dumbass too. I'm a dumbass. Hey, anyone selling a '93 Special FM?
  3. Looks VERY nice, Greg! Great touch!
  4. Nothing as gratifying as reciprocating and extending the difference we make in kids' lives beyond those of our own. Many of those kids, statistically speaking (baiting Mike Lee and JohnnyB), got more out of their time with you from an artistic and creative standpoint than they would have got at home. Job well done, Kev. Be sure to post an mp3 for us all to enjoy when it's time.
  5. I can get the action stoopid low on my Cali. Slick player (the feel and attack reminds me of a snappy and more "woody" Jackson Soloist). It balances perfect on your knee or on a strap, and the tone on mine is perfect - sounds like a fat strat on steroids in the neck position and a perfect Les Paul in the bridge position. And you "should" be able to find a used one within your budget. Considering you bought a Jem, you be pleased to know that they come in finishes ranging from traditional colors over figured woods to graphic madness. Here's some quick snaps of mine, in black and peptopink granite finish. A Centaura would also be a good fit (think Jackson Dinky on steroids), as would a Chaparrel, another 24 fretter that can be found in set-neck and bolt-on versions, rosewood/dot and ebony/boomers, H-S-S, H-S-H and Sustainiac versions. All are in your budget and all kick butt.
  6. Do you know why New Orleans has funerals featuring jazz bands and second line parades? Because the culture down here doesn't mourn the dead, it celebrates the life. Gibson could have made a minty guitar with vivid Mardi Gras colors that celebrated the spirit of the city and its culture. Instead, they chose to produce a commemorative guitar that looks like it too sat under water for a week. I appreciate the cause, but I find the guitar itself in very poor taste and actually quite repulsive.
  7. This could be you ...
  8. Get a black shallow bowl Ovation cutaway and a black cowboy hat. That way we can call you Peso Sambora.
  9. Great guitar tones. Fuck the rest. I'll take Jet first, quite honestly.
  10. The inaugural SCF photo...LOL!
  11. Over a hundred fistfights. Don't gig without a backup. The pic of Poe's behind. Boobies, baby, boobies. The photos of the classic thread flying around the world.
  12. Fooder, come to my house one night this week and watch the Hamer factory documentary DVD our local dealer rep gave me a couple weeks ago (excellent timing visiting Jody's shop LOL). After watching that, I'm convinced they could bind the guitar with a Tootsie Roll/French fry laminate and it'll come out just fine.
  13. Wow, waaaay too many close friends and friendly deeds exchanged with the folks who hang out here and I'd be scared to create a comprehensive list because I'd surely leave someone out accidentally. But the most recent examples...these are just from this month. 1. I've been testdriving V1 in my JCM2000 in recent weeks with classic vintage 12AX7s (old Mullards and RCAs and more rare, EXPENSIVE glass) in an effort to milk the best tone out of it I can. How'd the tubes get here? Poe sent 'em to me with the instructions "play with each one (there were eight vintage tubes total) for a couple of weeks to dial in your ear right and when you've gone through all eight, keep the best one and send the rest back to me." 2. Get home from work a couple of weeks ago and a package is on the front step. It's a framed 8x10 of a shot Kiz snapped in the Barataria swamp south of New Orleans in August during our little romp through Cajun land. I'm getting a new frame for it (USPS busted the frame) and it's destined for the foyer at my office. 3. Last weekend with Wildman Wilder, his Texas posse and Cajun Boy in the Atchafalaya Basin on the houseboat. I could have stayed out there for weeks that was so much fun.
  14. Happy one! Enjoy!
  15. Not my bag personally. Not enough pickup pole pieces. So are those M22s or M22SDs?
  16. OD/Booster - FDII Wah - I have a Teese enroute Chorus/Flanger - I can fake a flanger with the "II" setting on my Boss PH-2 Phase Shifter. Delay - Boss DD-6 Phaser - MXR EVH Phase 90 EQ - My amp has three knobs I use for this. Misc (any other notable mention) - Voodoo Labs Proctavia.
  17. I know the feeling completely. I played around in the acoustic room at GC last summer with the intention of buying something in the $600 range. Wasn't impressed with much of anything. So I bumped up to the $1K range. Still wasn't impressed. Took on "the sky's the limit" mentality and still NOTHING wowwed me. Ironically, the guitar that I was most inclined to leave with was this one particular Yamaha student acoustic (after playing about a dozen of the same series) that would have clocked in at about $300!
  18. I'm not keen on the Ibanez Edge bar assembly (I prefer the finger-tight drag adjustment instead of those nylon washers), but the bridge itself is great. I've never had a saddle clamp crack/split/break or get locked up inside the saddle, or had the intonation screws strip, which often happens with the Schallers.
  19. I just shat mee pants. Someone buy this before I hock my marriage.
  20. I've played two or three real '58 Vs at vintage shows over the years and the best "'58 V" from a tonal and playability standpoint I've ever played is the Korina Vector that resides with Serial Steve now. And we won't even go into the affordability factor compared to the real thing.
  21. Condolences to you and your family, buddy.
  22. Now THAT'S a color that looks badass with gold hardware. Sweet package. Very sweet.
  23. If you take the tone controls and roll them back just a touch (especially on the neck pickup), you can get into that milky LP zone pretty easily. Especially in distortion/overdrive situations.
