I'm with you buddy. They simply look 'cheap' to me. Maybe it's 'cause they remind me of the cr@p they used to sell in the Sears catalog back in the 70's. Tobacco-burst and that hideous 'burst that goes from Tomato soup orange (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggghhhh!!!!!) to black... guitars with eleventeen switches for on-board effects and all that... That being said, I could live with a burst done on a color and flame/quilt like the Matthes Bros. 'Not Chris' and 'Not Steve' as a 2nd hand buy. I'd never special-order something in a burst. the Digitech is a lovely machine...does the fx for the FOH. AFA the Behringer (or Danelectro stuff...heck anything cheap) goes... I'm probably just more interested in learning 'how to' use these fx. When/if Hi-Fi becomes an issue I can always move up. I guess I was hoping that they were some kinda sleeper, or at least that they weren't..utter..crap. thanks for the input...at least it's not like the bad ole days when any mention of bargain gear (esp. import Hamers) would cause all sorts of derision to be poured out on one's head. If this has been covered somewhere else here please forgive me. (HFCsearch not working for me today) I know they are NOT gonna stand up to any heavy abuse being plastic and all. But for $35.00 CDN, how can a rank amatuer like me say 'no'? Most they'll see if the trip from home to church once in a blue moon. The dude at Mother's really tried to impress upon me how crappy they are. I can't see how a one-eared bass player with no clue about guitar would ever know the diff. For about $115.00 I can grab a Tremelo, chorus AND delay unit. Any reason I shouldn't step off the ledge here? Dion

Mrs. blackfbiv supports me a ton. She's tolerates the growing 6-string thing, but is quick to remind me that I am a much better bass player. She must know what she's talking about 'cause her previous long-time guy was a pretty amazing guitarist I'm told. (Not just by her, either.) In fact she flew him to L.A. to audition for RHCP a long time back. (in case you're interested, they thought he was a great player, just NOT what they were looking for) I know that she would do whatever she was able to do to help me do or get anything I really wanted. Doesn't appear that there will be any custom FB's offered by Hamer anytime soon, so I'm content. Dion

AnDy sent me a Kahler bass whammy one time! How freakin' cool is that? Plus some Hamer swag from the Open house one year. JeffR was johnny on the spot with a TON of travel/tourist stats from the TIA to help out the Mrs. and I in our quest for the wilderness adventure business thang... BassGuy Dave shared a CD of some of his band's shenanigans. Great bassist and seriously talented songwriter. One of the most well developed funny-bones around. Stevehaynie trusted me with a kepi to try out on spec. Pam sourced out some flatwound strings one time and saved me a buncha cash. I think there's a couple more... it's hard to think sometimes... i know MCChris said 'the best' but it's all good... Dion
