  1. Ahh, the good ole HFC... bringing a little surreality into each and every day. Those ladies need to get more sun... hahaha Something ungainly about the way they semi squat with those harps too...
  2. Digging 'em on YouTube today... real down to earth rock. "If it's so good, why am I still... broke?" They deserved more success, IMHO.
  3. I thought they skidded Lambert already? Find it hard to work up much past 'meh' on this guy. Not sure why... just doesn't resonate with me I guess.
  4. Ah Stevie... you could fake 'em all I bet!!
  5. Nextt month?! Coming the Calgary Stampede to do the wedding? Or the honeymoon?! Either way... congrats my friend...
  6. I'm not even sure how long SMTW will last in the set... we've been all over the place stylistically. Doing a block party on June 30... after that we can start to refine... right now we're in 'let's have enough songs for 3 short sets' territory. AIC's 'Man in the Box'... hmmmm
  7. We've been doing Frampton's - Show Me The Way for some time. It's well rehearsed and pretty tight. Our singer/guitar player has been wood shedding with the old 'Talk Box' Broke it out the other night and holy cow, it makes the difference in that song BIG time. Of course, we laughed our butts off the first couple run-throughs due to his odd facial contortions. (And as the chorus was morphed into " I want you, to bl*w me that way". ) Now onto 'Kickstart My Heart' maybe...
  8. Tons of glass in bass amps... solid state/mosfet and all that is for poppers and slappers, not real bass players....
  9. Ah that sux... RIP
  10. Wear and tear... I can tell you the FBIV case is worn... held together by a few staples and the Holy Spirit these days... Years of being tossed in the back of school buses, trucks, etc... One day I'll have to replace the case, I guess...
  11. Enigma!!!! The entirety of their album "MCMXC" is super hot. Here is Sadeness from the album... if I come home to a dark house and this playing... I am in TROUBLE... (good trouble - )
  12. Condolences again, my friend.... was thinking that 'if ya gotta go'... I'd love to be listening to my friends makin' music...
  13. The Hamer 'Not Steve' and 'Not Chris' basses fit the bill for me... (Wish I had some pics to link)
  14. Probably easier for most bass players... In order of appearance... Mann 50 watt tube combo w/single 15. GREAT sounding amp...specially with a Peavey 2x10 or similar instead of the 15". AMP BH220 (solid state) + Axe 'Sugar scoop cab' single 15 on top and a BIG folded vent/horn underneath. Threw bass 72 miles I tell ya!!! Not much good on stage. traded in on an Ampeg 8x10. Next was an early 70's SVT head. Ran that cab 8x10 quite nicely. Came across a V6B Ampeg cab on the cheap. The combo of the 8x10 and 2x15's was pretty collossal.. Sold that rig... still stings... Now I run a Traynor YBA200 - 200 watter, all tube... into a Traynor 8x8 cab. Picked up a Trademark 10 from darc a few years back (one day i'll learn more than 3 chords) ... and a small Traynor bass combo for use in the living room.
  15. blackfbiv = fairly obvious i guess... pretty lame the more ya think about it... Side note: I was originally going to go with my usual.. "Tibetanpet". that was my screen name way way back, when the cable inet was the @ home network. Tiberatpet (my Lhasa Apso) @ home.com ... pretty clever I thought... I decided to go with something more appropriate for a Hamer board. If you see a 'tibetanpet' out there in the ether, it just may be me...
  16. Could be that was part of the impetus for CanCon way back in the early 70's. People could 'tell' that it was Canadian material and simply spun the radio dial? I agree tho, there is a certain sound from up here (not always, but often enough). And I agree that Streetheart would fit the bill. Still like this cover better than the original... That's actually a band I'd never heard of...but just saw this other cover by them of an old Small Faces song. BUT...this bands reminds me of another discussion we had on the HFC once about "Canadian Bands" sounding "Canadian." THIS band is a perfect example on these two songs. It immediately SOUNDS Canadian. I still cannot put into words exactly what that is...it just does. It has nothing to do with genre, there is just some element that makes it different from American, British, Australian, German, etc. Sort of like picking out Dan Akroyd, John Candy, Eugee Levy, Jim Carrey or Michael J. Fox as Canadian....maybe it's in the beer? Maybe it's too polite? Even the most nasty Canadians still don't seem like they'd shoot or stab you. I think you might need that "edge" in certain music or acting roles, no? Like R.E.M.....great band...but THEY could almost be Canadian.
  17. I gotta go with Streetheart's cover of It's a great cover and you can tell Kenny Shields is a fan... I like the original but this version is simply better...IMO
  18. Hahahaha... yeah... Great track... I may pick that up as a gift for my son... he likes 'the metal'... me too. I was a little weirded out by the fact that your intrepid singer seemed to be looking to the lright side of the screen and not directly on camera. I woulda crapped my pants if it was a late night YouTube session. "Why's he looking behind me? " I dang well expect to be hearing this on Hardradio.com!!!
  19. A big HBD to two great guys! Dion
  20. Zzzzzzz... wha?
  21. The Tale of the $75.00 Hamer Few years back I saw a posting for a Hamer Guitar on a for sale site down Calgary. I phone the guy. He's young and kinda hard to understand because he's Vietnamese with a heavy accent. "Asking $75.00 ...it's really strange looking and all pointy." Scarab was all I could think... I get his info and tell him my buddy Jim is going to come by at the agreed time since I'm up in Edmonton . He gets there and the kid meets him at the door with the guitar . Jimmy's got $75.00 in his right hand and places it in the kids left hand while taking hold of the guitar with His own left. "Thanks" says Jimmy Kid says " I have been getting lots of calls about this guitar, maybe I'm not asking enough." "Hey kid, a deal's a deal." replies Jim. "I don't know...", responds the reluctant salesman. "C'mon kid, here's your cash." Mom and pop are peeking around the corner from down the hall. A little guy of 3 or 4 is below them looking out as well. Both Jimmy and the kid give a little tug or two. The kid obviously wants the cash, but he's afraid his selling some buried treasure too cheap. Finally the kid let's it go. "Thanks kid! Have a good night." says Jimmy and away he goes. It was a Scarab, dustier than heck with some nasty bruising... ended up at AnDy's house if I recall correctly...
  22. The mighty Brooks is INDESTRUCTIBLE!!! He am IRON MAN!! Get well soon buddy!!!
