Randall Smith Departs MESA/Boogie
BoogieMKIIA replied to BoogieMKIIA's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I agree that it was time and according to some plan. -
https://www.musicradar.com/news/randall-smith-mesa-boogie-founder-has-left-the-gibson-owned-amp-brand Also on the Gear Page and other sources, seeming to say he was fired. I would note he is 78 years old and well over 50 years of tremendous success. Maybe my MKIIA will go up in value, but not for sale as I gig it regularly.

Gigging Observation - Getting Older and Drinking Less
BoogieMKIIA replied to LucSulla's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I scaled back on caffeine years ago. Still have morning coffee, just not too much. 5 hour energy made my ears ring and had me feeling pretty funky. These days, I might have one drink of whisky or beer at the start - so I don’t get sloppy and so I won’t get a DUI on the way home. If I wasn’t driving, might have another drink or two depending on the gig. Cannabis and playing well don’t mix anymore. I will have a night cap after I get home. I measure whisky these days so I don’t over indulge and feel too worn out the next day. I rarely drink enough for a full-fledged hangover. I turn 67 next month, still feel pretty good and playing lots of weekend gigs. I retired end of June so I don’t have to worry about showing up Mondays if the weekend was a bit long. Just making adjustments as time goes on. -
in line AC hum filter for noise from the house?
BoogieMKIIA replied to Jimbilly's question in Ask the HFC Experts
Morse code? Sounds like cell phone interference or other wireless source. Check if there is a phone on or near your amp. Not likely that the device you found will help, but could try it in case the noise is coupled to the church AC power. -
Revisiting String Height/Action
BoogieMKIIA replied to LucSulla's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Yes, frets are extremely important! I was assuming the frets were checked or assumed to be good. But yes, one section of a fret can cause buzz or feel that raising the action higher helps. -
Revisiting String Height/Action
BoogieMKIIA replied to LucSulla's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I have started raising the high E and B strings on my Telecaster. May try to adjust the relief. The action is low but not super low. Mostly the high E not bending so clean from about the 7th fret through 14th. I can’t see straight, so I can’t really judge what may be not quite perfect. A Plek might could map it, at a high cost. I wonder if how the neck bows with truss rod adjustment is not “centered” up and down the neck or some slight twist. That’s why I only try small, reversible adjustments or take it to a pro if I’m not successful. -
RS is 25 miles away from me, plus they have a great coffee roaster in Winchester. The other two places are on my list.

Never made the pilgrimage to Nazareth. Can’t at the moment but a great excuse to do so. I think the lead time is something like 6 months? The separation is from the shoulder down to the widest part of the lower bout. The narrow and wide binding have also separated from each other. Not for a novice, all things considered and the comments. It has spent a lot of time in the case the past year, in the house. Weird to see that much separation all at once. It is a 1987 model so must be age related.

Yes, the real deal. Also noticed it lifting a bit on the other side. Worth getting done right

The binding on my Martin is coming loose on the bottom/back. I have thin super glue, is this typically what is used to re-attach the binding? If I attempt myself, can I work a bit at a time or do I need to glue the entire loose part at one time? Can finger pressure work to hold it in place until set or should I bind it with cloth strips? If the cost is reasonable, I may take it to RS Guitar works and not worry.

What a great piece of mahogany!

Guitars and gear in Taiwan?
BoogieMKIIA replied to Disturber's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
There is Lee Guitars in Taichung, acoustic. Played a few in the shop there a few years ago. A fun high speed train ride from Taipei. Very nice. As far as electric, not sure. You would think there should be some good shops even if not local brands. https://tw.leeguitars.com/ -
Just sat down with the 2002 Studio Custom and wow! Maybe it’s the scotch, but got inspired tone. @JGravelin built some Ultimates with UOA5 that are the bomb. Signal path is delay, reverb, Chorus then black Zendrive. Maybe you could say it is 80’s or 90’s but it goes with whatever style I played. This is at living room volume. I goosed it once, it will be great at real volume. The Gravelins respond so well at volume. The rest of the chain is a 1987 Marshall 50W head and pine 2x12 open back cab with a Tone Tubby Purple Haze and Winterland.

Gold pickups on a blonde - cream or black rings?
BoogieMKIIA replied to zorrow's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I would try amber top hats. Easy to change back if you don't like it. -
The family spent a couple of hours, including a bite to eat and me playing a few tunes with the jam band on the second floor. I felt like I skimmed a lot of the first floor (history of), there is so much to see. Do some online research about what they have on the other floors and set priorities. You could go several times and not take it all in.

I only have one. I can post two photos of the same guitar but would get busted.

Our (my sister and I) first Beatles record was “I Want To Hold Your Hand”. We talked our parents into after we all watched that show. Then I talked them into guitar lessons.

If the display said one way or the other, can't say. A lot of items are the real deal. I bet the Beatles suits on display are real. The ones I saw them wear on the Ed Sullivan Show. And there was a teeny weeny pink bikini that was Sheryl Crow's.
