Just saw a Fender guitar commercial on Prime - others were watching Hell’s Kitchen. Seems like a big spend? Trying to figure out the target audience. Could an algorithm or AI know there was a guitar person in our household?

Nice! Maybe add a red “wax” Maker’s Mark seal on the body? A hide away flask?

Don’t need another one, but that one looks great! A good price compared to what I see on Reverb and Roger places. -
And the hits just keep on comin'! - update 9/19

Keeping you in mind, may the surgery be a success and recovery not difficult. -
The reply from Martin, goes to what @Jeff R said. I will take it to Willicutt's once I get it back from RS and see what they say. Better save my gigging $ "You will need to take this instrument Willcutt Guitars as they are a contracted Authorized Service Center of ours or a different Authorized Service Center. Typically, needing a neck reset is caused by environmental changes due to the changes in humidity and temperatures where the instrument is stored. This typically is considered a wear and tear item and not a manufacturing defect, but the Authorized Service Center will evaluate the instrument to determine this."

The action is a bit high for me, worse as you go up the neck, but playable. The saddle is pretty low and shouldn’t be lowered further. Some Bluegrass players would be OK with it. This guitar has failed the test Jeff describes for a long time. A straightedge falls below the top of the bridge. Binding repair + neck reset would equal what I paid for the guitar new in 1987! But half the price or less of a new one. I will see the post-hydration results before deciding. It is worth repairing, no doubt. I lived near Nashville when I bought it. Played lots of guitars before deciding on it. The one that beat it was a 1946 D28, too much for me back then at $5K.

RS said it would be around $1K if they do it. That’s why they said see if Martin would do it as warranty. I priced it a few years ago with a Gruhn tech (they were booked, he would do it on his own), recall $1600. One way to prove a manufacturing defect could be removing the neck, it would likely destroy any evidence. The bridge was lifting a few years ago. RS reglued it and said it had about 1/3 of normal glue coverage. That type of repair likely voids the warranty since RS is not a Martin authorized repair shop. I will see what they say and sock away some $ if rehydration doesn’t improve things to my liking

Finally got the Martin to RS. The guitar is very dry, wood shrinkage. They will hydrate for a while then reattach the binding. During the exam they said it could use a neck reset, Martin may do the work under warranty - I’m the original owner with papers. Has anyone here gotten Martin repair work? Heard any stories? I’m wondering what it takes for proof of a 37 year old guitar..

Sorry about your health problems. Keep your great mindset. -
Some Japanese electric that was hard to play. Then got a Gibson Melody Maker.

Nice amp! I’ve got the first version PCBA 50W Marshall, non-master volume. Using a power soak (wish I had a place where not needed), the frequency response of each channel changes as the volume knob goes up. The brightness becomes bearable at higher volumes on the lead channel. On the bass channel, the highs starting coming our after noon and especially from 3 o’clock to max, Duane. I think it is mostly due to output transformer saturation and tube distortion/compression. Both power and preamp. Are you using the master volume, have you let it all hang out? The jumper thing is cool, you can flip a switch instead of a jumper cable. It sounds like they did capture the old non-master characteristics. I personally don’t know what happens with speaker contribution when driven to those levels, lots of options. More modern high power speakers may not change response after the jump after 10 watts. I use to click the attenuator out a few clicks in the basement. It all just sounded better. The 4x12 has two Modern Lead Celestions and two Eminence GB in an X pattern.

Saw this on FB Marketplace, don’t know the seller. Amelia, OH is just east of Cincinnati. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1858663794612897/ $550 seems like a good price. I would be interested if I had some extra cash.

I have thought about switching the volume control position since I mostly use the bridge pickup and seems more like a Les Paul. I’m used to having two separate volumes, works if you have one set for rhythm. But one master volume would work for me. I don’t preset or ride Tone much and the volume in a consistent location across guitars would be nice. The more I play my Studio Custom, I start getting use to the standard setup, to a point.

Played with my rig a bit this evening. Learning is that a bit of boost before the Zendrive yields some juicy overdrive. I removed the Tchula from the chain a put in an Amp 50. Reset the tone knobs to taste without it. The Amp 50 sort of does a Tchula thing with the EQ but I didn’t like it by itself. Next, jacked the first Boogie volume knob to nearly 10, getting a slight bit of grit and sounding a bit fuller. Then, played with the Earth Drive in front of the Zen and was able to get a searing lead tone. The straight guitar, ED by itself, Zen by itself and then stacking were all pretty good. Have 4 different tones available. Will play with it more at volume to tweak. Guitars used - Player Tele with stock Alinco PU; Studio Custom with Gravelin Ultimates

Who Got the Hamer Standard #0506 from Guitar Maniacs?
BoogieMKIIA replied to Hamerica's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Wow! If I were fortunate enough to have one like that, I would have to play it out from time to time. -
The SP Compressor was a bit tricky to dial in. Three selections for how much compression, but can blend compressed and normal. Will see what the noise level is when it is at the end of the chain. I agree that what can stack and the order is highly variable. Last time experimenting puts the Zen as the last OD, will try again, especially if I change a pedal. I wish the Tchula had a level and EQ adjustment, there could be some similar boost to try in its place. Daughter is migraining so will have to wait to try some new combinations.

She played Lexington (Rupp Arena) when I was in college. Barefoot, cutoff blue jean shorts and white blouse tied at midriff. Oh, she sang wonderfully and the band was great. Closest thing to a male version of Beatlemania

Interesting to think about the last pedal. I don’t use the Zendrive extensively, but it is key to more raucous leads and tones. The Tchula boost into it the Zen is very good, may can get the same effect with a different boost or adjusting the Zen. There is plenty of adjustment remaining on all the Zen knobs. I never liked the Tchula until last year when I left the left side always on on adjusted the amp tone to dial out some treble.

Yes, I need to try options for myself, which I did months ago, several times. Thanks for the suggestions, hoping to save some time versus trying all the permutations. I use compressor for sustain and adjust as possible to not hear the squeeze. Not for the boost and have been setting for no boost. An easy rearrangement to try. I used to have a TS type in place of the Earth Drive, the ED is not so mid focused. Current order pleased my ears best a couple of times ago. I rarely have both on together. Have considered ditching the Tchula completely. I changed the amp EQ a lot to compensate for the big treble boost (and bass and overall). Or a milder boost. I go for 3 basic sounds. Cleanish with the Tchula (always on); some dirt with the Earth Drive added; distortion with the Zen/Tchula. I use a TC spark at the end of all pedals for an overall lead boost, used to just use the guitar volume. This seems to work well when I leave the Boogie volume 1 no higher than 6.
-
My signal path puts all other boosts before the Zendrive 2 black magic - SP Compressor, black Tchula, Earth drive, Zendrive. Tchula is always on, very rarely have everything on at once Item 1 - Any experience with what works and what is too much for the Zendrive input? I get great dirt and pinch harmonics with Tchula into Zen. The downside is lots of compression such that level and distortion are slow to change with the guitar volume l. Item 2 - The more you stack, the more noise. Could remove the Tchula and reset gain/eq and see if I can reduce the noise level. I'm open to ideas, other pedals and configurations. Typically use a Player Tele with the stock hot ALNICO pickups into a Boogie Mark IIA

Have your RS been Plek'd? They do good manual work and would be interested in a before / after.

We have a decent amount of places within one hour. Can meet up a ride together. Two yeas ago we played nearby on a Friday, 3+hour drive to Indy on Saturday - got home about 5 am Sunday. Then played a local winery Sunday afternoon. Hope to not repeat that again. Don't have to worry about dragging on Monday these days

Luckily we got a good sound check done early, mix was good. Great crowd, no stress any of the 3 sets. Tear-down and load out was standard and my commute home was about 5 minutes.

A bit of both, of course. Had a good weekend at great local places.
