  1. Oh yeah babe.
  2. I feel for ya CB. I'll be praying for your son and ex... Hang in, odds are that they are okay.
  3. Yep, the key of the song is key(??? )... Key of F, C is the 5th degree / note / chord of that scale, so you want to play the 5th mode of F which is C Mixolydian...which is simply an F scale starting and resolving to the C. The stuff can be confusing, but Matt Smith's Chop Shop book will clear it up for you in no time...buy it.
  4. In my experience Clark blows Allen away, just my opinion fwiw... The Clark Piedmont with 3 knob reverb and Weber Blue Pups is one of the finest sounding Fender clean tones I've ever heard. Rich, detailed, resonant.
  5. Hmmm. I have been under the impression that cathode biased amps allow you to switch from one set of power tubes to another without rebiasing, but that the tubes themselves still need to be matched to each other within 5% or so for optimal performance and especially tube life...no??? Back to the original question, I had an Old Flame head which I was disappointed with. It sounded tight and sterile to me, and felt stiff to play. It had to be very loud to sound very good and feel responsive, at least to me, so I sold it after a short time. They are built very well however. If I were shopping for a vintage Fender type amp, I'd find a good early silverface Deluxe or Super from the late 60's and have it tweaked out by a good amp tech. New construction? The Clark Piedmont is ultra sweet, and built as well as any amp. Expensive though.
  6. +1 to those points, especially Steely Dan - no excuse for them not being on the list...
  7. Well, I finally disagree with HHB! Better technically perhaps, more creative I doubt. Plus, we're talking about the best American bands here, not who's a "better" guitarist...I can and do listen to numerous ABB albums start to finish, I can't handle more than 2 Skynyrd tunes in a row. The correct order is: 1. The Allman Brothers Band 2. Aerosmith 3. Eagles 4. Little Feat 5. ZZ Top 6. CSN&Y 7. The Doobie Brothers 8. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers 9. Chicago 10. CCR 11. Marshall Tucker Band 12. Freddie Jones Band etc etc... Lynyrd is down near number 59 or so, due to extremely annoying background female vocals, mundane honky tonk piano riffs, and relentlessly redneck song orientation. They rank below Big Block Dodge, Jefferson Airplane, and Loggins & Messina... . edited to include Tom Petty...
  8. Nice. I'm good for an XL in indigo...
  9. I believe that tone on many stock guitars can be improved significantly with some of the better booteeky pickups available today, as most of the "bigger" mfrs still use Duncans, Dimarzios or their own brand to keep costs in check. Some of them are good, others not so good, but people like Wagner, Lollar, Suhr, Wolfetone, VooDoo, and Rio Grande are making some great sounding pickups these days... I've kept the stock Seths in my '96 Artist Custom, which is one of the great guitars I've ever played. I've left the Gibson '57 Classics in my Dickey Betts Les Paul as they just work with that guitar. My T51 has the stock Duncans which sound good except for the bridge, so I have a set of Lollars to try in that guitar when I get around to it... There are now Wagner Darkbursts in my R8 and R9 LPs, and Wagner Goodwoods came in my R7. The previous owner of my 335 installed Tom Holmes humbuckers, which are really sweet. My Strat has Suhr V60LPs. All of these guitars sound really good in my opinion, so they will not be returning to stock, at least as long as I own them. But, if a guitar sounds right to me now, I won't change for change's sake...
  10. Target, Walmart, Army/Navy surplus, and country/western boots type places...
  11. Hale y'all, Garner's just on the southwest side of Raleigh, down where the skatin' rink is near the train tracks... I'm fixin' to ride up if ah git back from Charleston in time.
  12. '59 RI w/WCR Darkbursts....
  13. Kil you are rocking the world...
  14. That is another beautiful guitar, congrats. Some of these pics are forcing my mind into custom order territory, hmmm...
  15. Belt buckle would hit the lower half of the guitar's back (if I let it)...
  16. Great player, and really great tone. Not wild about his vocals. A long way to go before surpassing Duane or Dickey in terms of creative genius, perhaps not as far to go chopswise...
  17. Can mine just say "Newbie since '99" or something???
  18. Eddie Berman at Indoor Storm is as good as it gets. Deal with confidence, I've bought several pieces from him. He listens to what you're looking for and is extremely knowledgeable with no attitude...
  19. And what about the pizzamaker thumbprints under the clearcoat, were all of those from the same era? I had a few of those guitars too...
  20. Lost my pop to pancreatic cancer 3 yrs ago next month. My very best wishes to all who are going through the battle...it is tough, but you do get support, and you do the right things for everybody, including yourself.
