    What a great thread! Travis, thank You very much for this tipp! I opens further doors... I just discovered the thread from August 21, 2010 "Early Hamer production #'s, How many are left?" Serial Steves post about production amounts: "There were 96 '77 Sunbursts (plus 4 or 5 prototypes, depending on who you ask). There were 511 '78s. I have every '78 Sunburst in the Registry." Where do I find this registry?

    # 8 0313 . Had a headstock repair in 1984 by luthier Peter Coura (+) in Frankfurt. Great instrument, quite a thin shim plate, accentuates precicely. I was told, she was made 2nd August 1978. Don't know if that's correct...

    Congratulation, Cornjulio! A very nice '78 Sunburst: bound and crowned, in excellent condition. And a very cool price. I discovered her at Kleinanzeigen, too. And offered to drive to Freiburg at once. But I was in second position, 6 hours too late... Good that she is in the HFC. Have joy and fun with her.     Hello Chris,

    I am a Hamer Fan from Frankfurt, Germany, specialized in Specials and Sunbursts from the Seventies and early Eighties. I read Your book, still got five issues as a present for nice customers, if I sell one of my newer Hamers - very seldom.

    And the old Sunburst is my guitar "für die Insel" (German saying for the most beloved one, since 1980): perfect sound, handling and balance. Now I got six. Five are on the photo. Two had a head break - and me a trauma, when this happened.

     

    Please help me:

    I'd love to know how many early Sunbursts with that special one-piece-bridge were produced in the Seventies? And how many in the Eighties? The 'regular' Hamer Serial numbers in the 70' have been 1450 guitars, right?  Have these all been Sunbursts? (exceptions were the four-digit Standards and Custom models I suppose)

    This info could be in Your  "The Ultimate " book. But sorry, I can't find it and/or don't remember 😏.

    Also interesting for me is to know, how many of Sunbursts were shipped. To which countries? My impression is, there are still quite many in Germany (great distribution at that time)...

    P.S.: It really was sad to see, how Hamer diminished at Frankfurt music fair. Around 20 years I was doing TV- and radioshows for natiol station HR and watched the fading with Kaman, Fender, then no Hamer booth, only poor press kits - analog to the shitty evolution and concept of the Frankfurt Fair. We did live broadcasting day and night, interviews, concerts, with Slash, Henry Juszkiewicz, The Scorpions, the Nordoff Robbins foundation andandand. The development was pain in the ass.

    Thank You very much for Your answers for my special Hamer Special with no Ser. Nr. 🙏. I was not at home awhile, so please pardon my late reaction. My Special seems to be an early 80' model, with modifications like the unnamed vibrato, two Out-of-Phase switches, woodwork at the PU cavity and with carving at the more pronounced cutaways (Thanks Velorush and Cornjulio). And she has the old (with Kahler system now unused) string ferrules on the backside. Because of the very probably untouched lacquer at neck and backside of the headstock with no Ser. Nr. she seems to me original. My question is: Has anybody heard or red about Hamer as prototypes or other reasons without Ser. Nr.? Thank You very much once more for Your help and expertise. P.S.: @Jimbilly: She has a three piece-neck. The strange three-screws-Trussrodcover happened very seldom. I.e. on a '78 Hamer Sunburst (link below). I have no black light, will try next month at my luthier Lars Riemer in Frankfurt, Germany.

    Neeed help to identify this Hamer Special(?). Because: she's got no Ser. Nr. Checkerboard-Logo. So apparently she must be from early to Mid '80s. But for me the body seems a bit different: the upper horn of the body is a bit hornyer than at my other Specials from early '80s. And nothing seems to be changed or overpainted, but no Serial Nr. Quite a heavy weight. Bought her 2010 via eBay. Has anyone a similar model? Or any experience or information about no-Serial-Nr-Hamers with a different longer upper horn? Thank You very much in advance for Your help.

    The Phantom bridge PU is a Seymour Duncan Jimmy Page Humbucker with chrome cap. The two DiMarzio Single Coils must be original. Didn't like the white P90 cap, so now the coil is visible now in black. The Prototype-PUs are bastards: a Gibson 498 Humbucker, a Seymour Duncan Power Single Coil, plus neck: Paul Reed Smith P90 . Bought them both with Ortiginal PUs around May 2021 in Bremen, North Germany (= Beck's Bier), for a very friendly price via eBay Kleinanzeigen. Great guitars, great sound possibilities

    Saw JB March 2016 in a small castle in Kassel, a city in the center of Germany, first row with around 100 media- and record-guys, one day after two soldout shows at Jahrhunderthalle in Frankfurt. He gave everything with admirable enthusiasm, virtuosity and passion. His output in unfollowable, his guitars and amp-collection, too. But I think he is real honest and loves what he is doing. Also some great singing and own songs. Don't mind the suits (not my style). But as long as his trademark appearance is sweaty....
