  1. +1I know, I know he's 80 something, diabetic, etc. But BB himself was on the stage for about 40min. He talked thru most of the lyrics, and did a few signature BB King licks. Tickets are expensive BB, give us a show! Maybe bring someone else along with you who has some energy. Maybe bring out Robert Cray or Bonnie Raitt or Lucinda Williams or Johnny Lang. Muddy Waters did it toward the end. He toured as the opening act for Eric Clapton. Johnny Winter was Muddy's guitar player. Clapton would come out and play 4 or 5 songs with Muddy & Johnny. Might be something to look into BB. Imagine, BB King opening act for say ZZ Top. Billy Gibbons comes out to play and sing a few BB king songs at the end of BB King's set along with BB's band. With unmistakable voices and sounds, it could make for some magical moments . caddie
  2. Well, they're both wood that come from trees and stuff... I'm no wood expert, but my understanding is that African Mahogany is not the same as African Limba (Korina). And the Mahogany that Hamer uses is from a different continent; Honduran/South American Mahogany. Maybe this page from the Warmoth site will help explain the various wood types & characteristics. http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Bodies/Optio...oodOptions.aspx Caddie
  3. Oh yeah? Don't wanna step on the 22+ thread. I'll PM you
  4. The only negs I had with the 22+ were )1 All of the controls are EXTREMELY sensitive. On some knobs the diff in tone & vol between say 7 and 7.5 or less can be enormous. 2) Here is where it gets tricky, the lead & rhythm channels share a few controls (I can't recall which knobs it was.) Dialing in the sound you want from each channel when you are sharing controls can be tedious and time consuming. It may force you to make some compromises between the channels. The switchable EQ is a big help with this issue. keep these things in mind if you want to step on the footswitch and go from rhythm to lead without bending down to twiddle knobs. Although the chicks standing, chanting and cheering by the footlights might enjoy catching an eyefull of some plumber's crack! I had previous experience with Mesa amps before I picked up the 22+ so I knew about the sensitive controls. I was able to dial it in to my taste by starting with the recommended settings in the 22+ manual and twiddling away from there. I took copious notes as I twisted the knobs so that I could keep track of what happened and had a way to get back to something I liked. Overall a great sounding amp clean or crunch. Remember its MESA LOUD. Great Mother of Pearl!!! LOUDY, LOUDY, LOUDY. Yet it sounds very nice, retains great tone when tamed down thru the Vol & Master controls or cranked up to deafening levels. I sold it only because it was gathering dust, its inventory clearance time around here, I still have too many amps. And Punkavenger was in desparate need of a real man's amp. caddie
  5. Go to the Mesa Forum for tips & tricks. In general its a helpful & pleasant community over there, much like the HFC. http://forum.grailtone.com/ Go here to flip thru the manual http://www.mesaboogie.com/manuals/user_manuals.htm caddie
  6. Sold this one a few years ago to an HFCr in Milan, Italy. I do not recall his name. Don't know if he still has it. Great guitar but I like my Fender Strat Deluxe better. I replaced the orig plain white pkguard with this tortoise guard and aged pup covers & knobs. It really made a huge diff in appearance. AND of course... NOWWW...it plays like buttah!
  7. keeping the thread alive A pair of Hamers and a Matchless Clubman on top of a pair of Matchless cabs. djoo lyk? caddie

  10. Bored, Ryder Cup is over for the day, thought I'd see if I could get yet another Hamer porn thread going. Here's my favorite little matched set. The bass was acquired many moons ago. The Studio, ummmm maybe 1-2 years ago after lots of persistent working on Nick. '90 Cruise Bass acquired from RJoseph133 '96 (maybe a '95) Studio acquired from sw686blue Beware hollowskull, your day will come. Your purple Studio will be mine. On those '95 & '96 Hamers does anyone else have a problem differentiating between a 5 and a 6 in the serial# stamped into the headstock (thx to jtgale for helping me clarify)? caddie
  11. Bump for a great bike and a true gentleman HFCr.
  12. IIRC, he went with the Spider Jam. Here's why. He wanted to consolidate & simplify his rig. Lose all those boxes. He needs a "headphone out" so he can play without complaints from the family. He liked the "loop recording" capability. He liked the ability to plug in a microphone into the amp rather than go thru that mixer box that he had. He prefers s.s. amps to tubes. Like many of us, he was bored with his old gear, his wife gave him a b-day gift of "gear mad money", so off he went to gear up. Caddie
  13. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZbadguitar If you were at BruceM's 4-3-2-1 Jam in May perhaps you met Kevin Dowell? He's the seller. A long time good friend of mine. Honest & trustworthy as the day is long. He just bought a Line6 Spider Something and is looking to clear out his old gear. Maybe you can help him out. Thanks caddie
  14. 45mpg??!!! 28k miles??!!! Get out there on PCH 101 & let it breathe a bit b4 you decide to sell. A thoroughbred tide down in the stable. Its a crime. caddie ps-sold if you include shipping, hendling, packaging & insurance (to 60540)....and a tune up, and a package of .011 strings
  15. "Half Breed"? Bunghole...make that 2 lame ass Cher songs but whats really embarassing?? I KNOW THE FRICKEN WORDS!!!!!! lol!! Do you know the words to "Dark Lady?" If you must lay blame, blame late 60s/early 70s AM radio. Thank God for FM radio. It delivered us from evil. Or was it Al Gore who invented FM?
  16. Sadly, it seems hardly anyone shares your attitude. The paralyzing fear people have of getting even one negative is ridiculous. Rape victims are probably less afraid to testify against their attackers than most eBayers are about giving negative feedback where it's warranted. Probably the biggest reason why eBay does in fact suck. Did you ever go to the old Maxwell St market in Chicago. There is a scene from it in The Blues Bros. movie. The scene with John Lee Hooker.Anyway, for the most part Maxwell St was a Saturday morning bazarr stocked with stolen or hijacked goods of all types, weird & oddball vendors selling all kinds of weird and oddbal stuff, and carts selling the best Polish sausage you ever had. Visualize Marrakech w/o falafel, on the South Side of Chicago. Gypsies, tramps & thieves....and that, IMHO is what eBay has become. The cyber Maxwell St. Buyer AND seller be very, very cautious. YMMV
  17. The 1st Van Halen album, first groove was one of those rare "WTF was THAT" moments. We burned thru several sets of JBLs listening to that in the old college apartment. Everybody did. It was perfect for overpowering Al Stewart with his Year of the Cat or Time Passages. Or any other crap from that time period. btw, whatever happened to England Dan & John Ford Coley? Did they morph into Brooks & Dunn?
  18. I don't know.......that lamp could be a hookah in disguise.
  19. So did Tom Petty pay big bucks to Stan Lynch & Benmont Tench (& others) over the years on a per gig basis despite having no writing credits? Or is there something like an employee contract. "Be a Heartbreaker for 5 years get paid $50k per year plus travel expenses."
  20. go ahead, google it....... A1 on the Jukebox, but Nowhere on the Charts I'll take the One Hit Wonder, hash browns, coffee & some change for this jukebox here.
  21. Was it Robbie Krieger who didn't believe in changing strings? Never changed them during the Doors years? Can I get a witness? Or am I just hearing voices again?
  22. Too many on the list to choose from, And more to come from people we have never heard of....yet.
  23. I have not read all the replies, however: Tommy Shannon - played behind Stevie Ray Vaughn and Johnny Winter Steve Ehrmann - did a loooong stint behind John Lee Hooker Gene Simmons - Kiss ok, ready, aim, fire! noonan oh yeah, I almost forgot one. Rich Klein, the bass player from my old band. Steady, solid, an occasional cool little riff. If I get the chance to play in public again, I won't do it without Rich back there on 4 string. Brothers from different mothers. noonan
  24. nice dye job on Watson's hair. Looks like faux koa.
