Rant and warning - Snake Oil Strings
edgar_allan_poe replied to BadgerDave's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I am completely shocked that the dude had the balls to even answer your e-mail. Inexcusable. I have a source for them (No I am not giving it up) so I don't have to deal directly with Dean. He farked up a brilliant product IMHO. -
Still feeling the love for tubes
edgar_allan_poe replied to MCChris's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
All tubes here and I play in a cover band. Even when I was using the modeling stuff i still ran it into an old Mesa 2:90 with the EL34 section. The tube power section make all the difference in the world. -
Successful cover bands boil down to one simple thing... You are not there to play the music you like, you are there to play the music the *patrons* like. That means swallowing your pride and playing some stupid simple songs. It also means that you have to have a wide collection of songs to play different environments. We have a well paying gig that requires us to play some softer, mellower music because the clientele is much older and are there to enjoy the good Martinis that are $10 a pop. Playing Fight for your Right to Party isn't going to make *anyone* happy in a place like that.

Eastwood's making some cool nostalgia basses

Some guys also rave about their arch tops. Supposed to be killer guitars for around 2-2.5K. The is hella cheap for a quality arch top. -
Public Service Announcement - MannMade Products

WTF is wrong with these guys? Why is it so hard to just communicate honestly with a customer? Unreal. -
It actually isn't for me. The other guitar player in my band told me to snag one when I saw one at a good price from a reputable seller. While neither is case here, I figured I would take a shot anyway. ROTFLMAO!!! I'll be sure to put it through its paces before I turn it over to him though. I have heard great things about this pedal.

And in this case the man, quite literally, will not make the clothes. That being said, I wouldn't expect Armani to make me a pair of basketball shorts.
-
I hear ya...not my thing either. But, none of those other bands besides Sabbath have had as much of an influence on modern Metal as Anthrax. Great/good bands? Absolutely. But none of them changed the genre as much as Sabbath and Anthrax.
-
Just out of curiosity, can anyone post the list? I can't get to that site from work.
-
IMHO Anthrax should be up there as well. They started the whole rock/rap genre. JMHO. Sabbath is a no brainer.

Rant and warning - Snake Oil Strings
edgar_allan_poe replied to BadgerDave's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Reading the thread would help. I don't know what they purport to do, but I know from personal experience that they sound amazing and last a stupid long time. Not too long ago, I was gigging in three different bands and all of my guitars had SOB strings. I could easily get 6 months out of a set. the only reason I would change was to clean and oil the fretboard, the strings were actually still very usable. Whether it is worth the hassle is entirely up to you, not sure if anyone can answer that question for you. FWIW The site is down and my guess is that he is out of business. -
Guitars that got away appreciation thread..
edgar_allan_poe replied to humfree's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
The only one I *truly* regret selling is on its way back to me. I sold everything after I discovered Nik Huber guitars, and believe me, there were some *very* cool pieces. Jacksons, Hamers, Gibsons, vintage PRS, and a slew of Bakers. I have owned over a dozen Bakers. This is still the only guitar I regret selling. The other one would be a really tasty Jackson PC-1, but this particular Baker just slaps everything else around. It doesn't have anywhere *near* the versatility of my Hubers or my Schroeder. But they lack its massive lower midrange growl and balls out rock tone. All mahogany and a 25.5 scale neck with ebony board. Mr. Gale has agreed to sell it back to me and I cannot thank him enough for his generosity. Jim is one of the *really* good guys around here. -
Thanks for the heads up on Lava cable guys. I needed some quality patch cables and got them for 1/2 of what I was going to have to pay.
-
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bruiser Brody had a few doosies when he was tying one on as well. HAHAHHAHAHAHAH
-
This from a guy who just called someone an "anal unit" ROTFLMAO!!! Oh the hypocrisy of it all. LOL!!!!!! Given the thread, I would have bet money that he was talking about Johnathan. LOL!!!!
-
Wow...why you gotta go after The Muse like that? What did Chris ever do to you?
-
So it would stand to reason that a cable made with better materials will *physically* hold up better (my original reason for purchasing it) and preserve its sonic characteristics longer than a cheaply made cable? Wouldn't that be worth an extra $20?
-
Whatever...
-
Exactly. My guess is that the difference between the Spectraflex and Mogami would be tiny, if any. The length of the cable and the fact that they are both well made would be huge factors.
-
I don't have a pedal board, but I do use a Foxrox TZF Flanger in the loop of my Roadking. I was using Hosa patch cables and when I bought the Mogami Gold patch cables, there was....again...an enormous difference. Remember though, I was going from $2-$3 patch cables, so YMMV. Nonsense. The difference in tone that I hear has absolutely zero to do with my emotions. I am not a rookie or someone who has had no experience with professional level equipment. I may not have the ability of others on this board and I am the first to admit that. One thing I do have though, is a very good ear. I don't give a shit was a friggin lab test will show me. I know the damn thing sounds different, very different, from my other cables. I bought these cables because I perceived them to be more road worthy than the cables I was using and I had just had a cable go bad during a show. I was *not* expecting a tonal difference. What I heard was the equivalent of a blanket being taken off of my amp and I was blown away. I immediately posted my experience and several other members purchased this cable and had the same experience. To dismiss this as "snake oil" is extremely arrogant.

Sights and sounds of my Monaco SuperPro in action
edgar_allan_poe replied to MCChris's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I gotta get me one of those...it makes you look skinny. LOL!!! -
Couldn't tell you, as I have never used those.
-
Maybe...have you tried one? Anyway, that isn't the cable we are talking about. the one I bought (and JB here bought) was their Gold series and it priced in at $44 for me. the difference in sound was really shocking. We are not talking subtle nuances here, the difference was painfully obvious. Tip: If the Guitar Center around you has been around a while, it is very possible that they still have old stock of the Mogami Gold series cable. the only difference between the new cable and old cable is the packaging. the new stuff comes in a plastic anti theft unit and the old stuff has a simple folded cardboard hangar. I found a bunch of the old ones with the old prices of $44 still on them. When I went to the counter the tried to charge me the new price of $55. When I pointed out the price on the packaging, they changed it and I walked out with brand new Mogamis. On a side note, I just got done doing some gear trading and part of the trade was a pair of new in box 20' Evidence Audio Lyric cables and a 15' Solid Cable Arc Ultra. I suspect that the difference between these and the Mogamis will be subtle but you never know. I will let you guys know when they come in.
