  1. What effects was the first guy doing to get that tone?
  2. Happy Bithday!!!! How is the great sell off going? Hope you mother is ok!!!
  3. There are a ton on record. But these are the guys that I saw live that really blew my mind: Rock: Eddie Van Hallen (at a backyard party around 1977) Lanny Cordola (local neighborhood shedder who made it with Guiffria, House of Lords, Bad Religion and Magdalen) Micheal Schenker with UFO Niel Geraldo from Pat Benetar Angus Young Mark Knoffler Blues: Junior Watson (the best west coast jump blues player alive!) Albert King (he could make the guitar scream.) Johny Copeland (not to popular Texas bluseman but his live shows were outstanding.) John Lee Hooker. (he could make nothing sound great and carry a grove like nobody before or after him.)
  4. Sir Douglas, sorry I didn't meet up with you at NAMM. I met a lot of other HFC guys and it was fun seeing them. Although a lot of go to the show and have a great time doing so, you have to remember what the show is for. It is for manufactures to meet up with dealers. Not to sell guitars or deal with end users. It is all about them selling stuff to stores. We are just there wasting the manufactures time and money. They pay big bucks for a small booth. The last trade show I went to in Vegas to show my products last week cost me $30,000. I would suspect that most of the smaller folks are paying similar and larger booths like Kaman were likely over $100,000. So yes they are doing everything they can to promote there products and get some return on their investment. Many of them rely on this show to make or break their companies. The stakes are high so I don't begrudge them anything. I feel greatful that ordinary guys like us get in and get a chance to rub elbows with stars like Bono, Rick Derringer, Tommy Shaw, George Benson and others who I met and talked with on Friday.
  5. I would agree with the others. That is the way the tone controls are set up. I usually run my Newport with Phat Cats around 4 on the tone knob. With the tone rolled down to 4 is it still too bright???
  6. Wow I discovered Hamer USA in 2005 and I bought: 02 Newport from Ebay 01 Artist from Hamerhead 95 Studio from Monacosis 00 Duotone from GregC Eclipse that has been all over the board 83 Special from Hamerhead I sold the Studio to Johnny Thunders this month and I sold my Echotone on Ebay this month. We will see what happens in 2006. I would like to trim down to 4 guitars however everything I have right now is a keeper. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
  7. My first Hamer was an Import Echotone. I loved that guitar for a few years. I just sold it last week and I already miss it. The Echotone was made redundant by my first USA Hamer, a beat up Newport. I bought the Newport about 14 months ago. Since then I have bought an Artist, Studio, Duotone, Special and Eclipse. I guess I caught the bug. These guitars fit me like no other guitar has.
  8. Thanks God the world is in balance again.
  9. I sure hope the cherry one on the right is a Junior. With how much you love Juniors it just wouldn't be right leaving one out all together.
  10. I am on this same quest. I just started sitting in with my friends Irish band on a regular basis. I have been playing my Duotone which sounds really nice but the folks in the band want to see an acoustic guitar. I have played probably 100 guitars on my quest and still haven't found one that I have bonded with. I can seem to differentiate between a $500 and a $1,500. I want this to be my last acoustic so I am taking my time. I also would rather buy used. I have played an Ovation for a number of years and just sold it. I will admit that Ovations don't sound the best but they play nice. At this point, I think it will be a Martin but not yet sure which one. I also have liked several of the Takamine guitars and some of the Yamaha's. The new Master Built series from Ephiphone made in China are very nice as well.
  11. I saw that tour as well. Chapman was never as good as Micheal Schenker.
  12. FOUND ONE!!!! Thanks Hamerhead I am looking for a beat up Hamer USA Special or Eclipse. What do you have out there? I want to pay less than $400.
  13. Because if you do, she will have your child forever and you won't get to see him. That's the way the system works. It is all in favor of the women. She has been through a lot, she has already been punished and will continue to be punished. Get your peace from knowing that you son is alive and well. Rejoice and be glad. She will get hers in the end.
  14. What do you guys think their business plan is? I am intreged. They always post things at about 20% more than they are worth and they just continue to run them for months. Do you think they are just trying to increase the value of things by getting everyone use to seeing high prices? I bought a guitar from my local GC that had been listed on Ebay for several months at about 20% less than it was listed on Ebay but of course they wouldn't comment on their pricing strategy.
  15. I saw the Black Crows over the weekend. I would say they fall into that category. Nice live show was well.
  16. Let us know what he is looking for in terms of price. I have an early 65 that I love. If the price is right, I might be interested in a backup. Please also tell us know what the tube chart says for the model number (This will be helpful even though any Bassman player knows the tube charts aren't always accurate on these things.)
  17. It is unusual. But who cares as long as it works for you. I had a Fender Twin type amp made by Randall. It was 120 watts with clean tones for days. I used a Ibanez Tube Screamer for a boost, into a Boss Blues Driver, into a Boss DS-1. I had each of them set with a little more gain. I would use the Blues Driver and DS-1 together for crunchy rhythm and then kick on the Tube Screamer for a solo boost. As long as I was playing, the hiss and noise wasn't bad, but I definately had to click them all off by the end of the song or it was very noisy. I didn't use any sort of noise supression at all.
  18. I am not sure I understand your problem. Are you worried about noise or is your rig too loud for your townhome? Here are some thoughts. Does the ME 50 have a headphone output? If so, then you won't be bugging anyone. I just adopted 3 children so I have gone almost exclusively to using headphones at home. Does it give me the best sound, no, I like my tube amps more, but it is a sacrafice for the family. Get a smaller amp and overdrive it. That way you could eliminate a couple of the overdrives. I went from 3 overdrives on my board down to 1 or none by using the right sized amp. Live with it. Noise is just part of using high gain. When you are playing most of the noise goes away.
  19. That is what I am talking about. A 10" by 16" piece of Tortoise colored plastic is $44. There has got to be a much cheaper sorce somewhere.
  20. I am going to make some custom pickguards. Man all of the music companies are charging an arm and a leg for a little piece of pickguard material. There has got to be a place to buy it cheaper!!! Where do you buy it?
  21. I will take a couple XXL as long as the quaility of the shirts is good. How do we sign up?
  22. Here is the link, go git it!!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...7333323929&rd=1
  23. I started playing cheap import guitars a few years back. Most of them have terible sounding pickups and the guitars themselves don't sound so go, so you really need to switch them to get good sound. So, I became a pickup swapper. I now play Hamer USA guitars. My Artist had Duncan 59's in it. They have to go. I put Duncan Antiquity Humbuckers in it and it sounds twice as good. With a good guitar, even the cheaper Duncan's sound good. But not nearly as nice as Duncan Antiquities, WCR Crossroads or Lollar Imperials which are my Humbuckers of choice. I love the Phat Cats in my Newport. I have had other P90 type pickups that have a more vintage sound, but the Phat Cats just have their own little thing going on that I like. They will stay. When someone decides to sell me a Special with a big fat neck, it will definately get Lollar P90's in it.
  24. I sent one out 5 days ago. Man I hope it get there by today. If not, the worry will begin. Next time it is priority mail with a receipt!!!!!
  25. How are the BBQ and Texas for clean tones and on the verge of overdrive type tones. I play blues on the cleaner side (Muddy, Howlin Wolf, BB King, Albert King, type stuff.)
