FS/FT MESA Boogie MKIII Green Stripe
Scottcrud replied to mattb's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Harry, This amp will blow away a Nomad as well as the DC-5. I've owned a few MKIII's as well as a DC-10, I'd never own a Blomad, they suck imo. -

I'd really consider buying this if it was a head. -
BCRGreg, did you repair this one?

But he doesn't use Ice Cream sticks or tongue depressors! -

I wonder if a Washburn Wonderbar was mounted on there at one time... -
I especially like the ice cream sticks... http://cgi.ebay.com/1981-Hamer-Special-Sol...1QQcmdZViewItem

The First Tone That Made You Say... "Whoa!"
Scottcrud replied to Hamerhack's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Marty Robbins-Don't worry about me-I think the guitar solo is one of the first distorted tones out there. Carcass-Necrotisim cd, The guitar tone is like a Mack truck, at the time I heard it (1991) I'd never heard a guitar tuned down to A, just brutal sounding. -

Jack, yes, they can do metal with a Tube Screamer. And Kurts is probably better. -

what about the Dime wah? I'm pretty sure if I bought a Zak wah or a Dime wah, I would have no problem NOT sounding like either one of those guys...

Well last thursday morning between 11 pm Wednesday nite and 3am Thurs morn, someone broke into my garage and stole my two amps, Engl Blackmore, and Boogie .50 cal, plus my pedal board with my old assed crybaby wah, and all my other pedals, plus my cable bag which had tools, cables, extra pre-amp tubes, strings and band cd's and stickers. As luck would have it, I told my singer at 6:30 am ( sorry Steve) and he put out the info on the web, myspace, craigslist, e-mails etc. Thursday around 4pm I get a call that a friend has put money down on a Engl Blackmore that just arrived at Guitar Center...I call down there, and sure enough it's mine. I call the Detective who's handeling my case and he told me he would call them etc. So Monday morning I get a call from the Detective asking me if I could meet him down at GTR Center, to identify my gear. I was told this could take up to two months...So I go down and sure enough it's my head and Z-5 pedalboard, I didn't know the serial number on the Engl, but I knew exactly which pre-amp tubes were in each position and they were all NOS. So they start brining out pedals, a old crappy DOD chorus that halfway works, a brand new in the box Carl Martin Hydra Boost that I've tried to sell here, and a brand new Boss NS-2 cause they sold my used one. But my 15 year old Dunlop Cry Baby wasn't there, my Boogie wasn't there, they wouldn't by it cause it has wires hanging out the back of the power tranny from Kendrick amps...my Engl custom made head slip by Studio slips wasn't there and both my Boogie pedals and a old broken DOD EQ pedal were not there. GTR Center told them to take the Boogie, and other pedals to a pawn shop. So I got 3 of my pedals and my Engl back. The Detective/Travis co police and Guitar Center have been especially helpfull to me, Gtr Center even called me Saturday morning to offer me a "loaner amp". The 3 kids that did it all live within a mile of me, they're going after the one who sold the Engl and are going to put the "squeeze" on him to nail the other two. So, I'm wanting a new wah, I'm thinking about the new Zak Wylde wah or the new CryBaby with the fasel inductor, any other cool wahs for under $150 out there? Also, I'm wanting a pedal tuner and am wondering between the Boss, the Planet waves and the Korg, which one is best. Thanks in advance for any insight. Scott

Gorilla 30 awesome amp man, or one of those Pignose tube amps designed by Daennis Kager of Ampeg/Sundown fame. And yes, I was kiddong about the Gorilla 30...that was my first amp btw.

Opinions/price advice on Hiwatt Studio Stage?
Scottcrud replied to polara's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I think it's too high, I've seen Briacrown era 50 watt combos going for less this year. You just gotta check around. A good place to start would be the Plexi Palace on the Hiwatt forum. -
Jaye, I actually bought my Iron Man from Tatooed Carrot, the guy who came up with the idea for the Iron Man...

Can you give more details about this pickup? Is it quiet? Very quiet for a high output pickup. I've been using EMG 81's for about 15 years and decided to try passives again, and it took me about an hour to get used to the Iron Man and to tweek my Engl Blackmore at practice last night. I'm sure there'll be a little more tweeking to come. I really can't compare it to anything else except the EMG 81 , it has more bass/low end, it isn't scooped at all, has more "grind" than the 81, about the same harmonics...It sounds 1000% better than the Gibson Tony Iommi pickup or Duncan Invader that I used to have...much more balls than the Iommi and no mud like the Invader. As much clarity as the 81 if not more. Plus, It came with the C-8 magnet in case I wanted to swap out the AlNiCo-5 that it came stock with. so far I'm happy with it. Hope this helps.

I just bought a Iron Man and it absolutely smokes, fantastic pickup for hard rock/metal/punk/hardcore etc.

I've heard nothing but good things about Mako amps. I talked to the Mako guy a few years ago, about building me a two channel ( clean and hi gain) amp, I just wish I had $1800.00 at the time. I still don't but, all the amps I've owned since then, I coulda easily afforded one. Let me know how it sounds compared to your Deizals and such.
