  1. As the title states, looking to partially restore my 82ish Vector with original tuners and original or repro bridge. Let me know if you’re willing to part with some parts!
  2. Neck pickup is a Schaller, bridge is some sort of DiMarzio. No sticker. Looks too new to be an early 80's PAF though. I did really like the PAFs that were in my Special, but they're pretty pricey. For that money I think I might just get a set of WCRs. And thanks, yeah, I'll probably put up a WTB post here.
  3. Thanks! He had a weird love/hate/steal relationship with Hamer. I think maybe he was a dealer at one point and lost his dealership, but then started building guitars and sticking the Hamer name on there? I'm sure someone here knows more of the story, but there are a couple of those famous ER rants that you might still be able to find where he goes off on Hamer and Kaman. Funny stuff. But yeah, they apparently still have Hamer parts left over and were one of the first google hits when I searched "vintage Hamer parts". I bought my first electric from Ed when he was in CT, in like 1988.
  4. So as I'm settling in with the this somewhat bastardized Vector, I've decided I'm definitely going to start with replacing the tuners as that's something I feel comfortable doing myself. Are Schaller M6 3+3 the direct modern replacement? Any sources on a proper headstock logo? I think, at least for now, I'll keep the natural headstock as I kinda dig the natural look. So a black logo would be cool. I feel silly for asking this, but we're still avoiding Ed Roman Guitars like the plague even in 2024, right?
  5. Yep. A 40 minute drive, and the guy was just great to deal with. He got a really sweet amp in trade that’s worth well over his asking price. An amp I actually bought here, come to think of it.

  7. Oh, boy. What have I gotten myself into now? This popped up on my local Facebook Marketplace, listed as a refinished 82 Vector. Met up today and I just couldn’t say no. Guessing it was maybe a sunburst that someone wanted natural? Not sure why they stripped the headstock too. Lots of replaced parts - pickups, tuners and bridge for sure. There’s some sort of fake binding/decal. It plays really nice and sounds pretty damn good. I expected the neck to be skinnier based on my old 81 Special. I have no idea what the pickups are. I’ll dig into that soon. I’d like to get it closer to original spec. Without being too precious about it. I’m seeing these Mann Made repro sustain blocks. I figure that’s the way to go? I dunno if the holes for the existing bridge will show if put a sustain block on, or if it’s going to leave a big rectangle mark where it was. Cross that…bridge…when we come to it. What should I look for, for tuners? I actually kind of like the look of the natural headstock. Maybe a black Hamer decal? Any recommendations on Hamer savvy techs to do the work? I know BCR Greg was the guy back in the day. I wouldn’t mind finding a tech local to Connecticut so I didn’t have to ship it around.
  8. Just heard the news and figured I'd stop in to grieve a bit with you guys. Tis a sad, if not unexpected day. I'm glad nobody up in New Hartford is losing their job. After doing the factory tour a couple of times, I know how dedicated those guys are. I've heard rumors about them tooling up for Guild electrics? Maybe just a rumor, but it could be a silver lining. If some of that craftsmanship could live on in a different resurrected brand? As a former Hamer USA dealer myself, my heart goes out to all of the authorized dealers here on the forum. You were as much a part of the company as anyone, and kept the line going through some tough times as it was. Best of luck to you all. To all the players, there are still lots of Hamers out there on the used market. Plenty of treasures to be found. Keep rocking them out. Play your Hamer a little more loudly tonight.

  11. Wow, I don't check in for a few days and look what happens. This is a sad day for sure. I hope all goes well for Jol and all the guys at the shop as well. I'll be looking forward to future output from both. In the meantime, luckily there are still plenty of reasonably priced Jol-era Hamers on the used market.
  12. I rocked a CIJ JM for awhile. It was upgraded with Novack pickups and Tusq saddles. It sounded great. I agree that these are very unique instruments and not terribly versatile. That being said, mine was a lot of fun to play.
  13. Go see Willie Nelson! I've been a fan since I was a little kid, but didn't get around to seeing him until last year. He puts on a great show! I plan on going to see him with Dylan and Mellencamp. I'd just as soon skip the rest of the show though. +1 for Jethro Tull too. Ian Anderson is still a great performer.
  14. Well you guys have covered a lot of the good old stuff, but there are many more. And I think there are plenty of artists out now still putting out great rock albums. I think as long as there are guys like us around still, the album as an art form is not yet lost.

  16. Tough to nail down one, there were/are so many. Townshend, Gilmour and The Edge are definitely up there as are a lot of 80's metal players. Definite +1 for all the guys I've played with over the years.
  17. I had to vote Kramer. My first 3 electrics were a Striker, Pacer and Focus. I actually wish I still had the Pacer.

  19. I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but I've also always felt that there are 2 different schools of rock bass players too. There's the old school players, who are far more blues influenced, and then new school players who tend to add a lot more jazz and funk to their playing. Claypool, he's in a class all his own I think.
