  1. 10s on the Fender scale guitars, 10 1/2 on the Gibson scale. They feel pretty close. GHS Boomers. On my slide guitar tuned to open E the strings are HUGE. All I remember is the G# (3rd string) is an unwound .020 . . kinda hard to find. They rarely get changed. This allows a fairly low action so I can fret chords, but not knock the frets when I'm a slidin'.
  2. Been drinking the kool aid a bit longer than most. Bought this new in '79 and I still have it. Still think about selling it 'cuz I prefer my newer Hamers, but I have not got off the fence yet! ">http://
  3. I liked the old skeleton "tone to the bone" shirts. They gave some away at one of the HFC factory tours. Mine's just about worn out. Sure would like another.
  4. Great amp for both small gigs and recording, too, I like to dime (OK, 12) mine and just work the volume control on my guitar. I have a G12M25 in mine, a friend has a V30 in his. Both are quite nice. The slide clip I posted here a while back was my BJr.
  5. http://www.daddys.com/detail.php?itemTitle...mNumber=HAM4019 Daddy's Junky Music in Dedham, MA. They do ship stuff.
  6. My nephew used to play with her when she was just Stephanie something-or-other in NYC. He's a good musician and says she's the real deal. I think Paparazzi is a good tune.
  7. Another slide guy! Cool!
  8. Gitslide . . . pretty easy, right? I play slide guitar. At one of the HFC factory tour/jams I played Jeff Beck's 'Cause We've Ended As Lovers on slide guitar. That was fun.
  9. Use whatever is comfortable for you. If you like the .009s, maybe raise the pickup a bit to make the magnetic field near the string stronger. I use .011s on all the guitars except the slide guitar . . . can't remember what the gauge is but they are so big it's impossible to bend 'em, and they are tuned up to open E! I get a nice fat tone on either instrument. I have friends who use much lighter strings and get a full tone, too. Big strings do not automatically mean fat tone. Use what feels good!
  10. I'm all tube . . . all the way. I just like to plug in to a good, small tube amp, run it wide open and use the volume control on the guitar, and my right hand attack to work from clean to dirty. Sometimes I'm puzzled by folks who insist on tubes, but rely on solid state devices out front to get gain and distortion. But, if it sounds good and works for them, that's all that matters!
  11. Worse band ever? KISS. Yet they're worshiped like they invented rawk'n'roll. And they looked like crap, cartoons. How can anyone take them seriously? YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. David Coverdale, for sure. But definitely not Cindy Lauper
  13. My friend Roger Hart works for Kaman. He told me he suggested the "Vanguard" name inspired by the "Village Vanguard" club in NYC. He may have though of the Newport (Newport Jazz Festival) name also, but I'm not sure. CRS is hitting me hard these days! RICK
  14. I have tried multiple times over the past 20 years or so to see Schenker. Cancelled shows, all of 'em. If and when he ever gets his (business) act together, with LUCK, maybe I'll see him. He is one of my two most favorite rock guitarists. I see him as the "link" between the blues based players of the 70s and the shredders of the 80s. He's incredible.
  15. I remember that! That was great. Arnies DrZ an d Kim keller's most excellent Soldano in that pic as well. Yeah . . . we were the Coolest Cats in the Car . . . . Until Matt Smith whipped out an accoustic-electric mandolin and knocked out "Whipping Post!" I have great memories of that weekend. Rick
