JGravelin Posted January 6 Posted January 6 My Dads. I grew up hearing all music through it, and now I've got it. It definitely needs an overhaul and professional "Full Service". Anyone here have experience with these? Suggestions regarding a repair person/place? Thanks! 3 Quote
0 Zork Posted January 7 Posted January 7 (edited) Try Savage Audio they used to do some hifi stuff. It might just need new power supply caps, etc. Close and they might know someone to refer you to. The 1060 was ultra popular in the 70s and there are still tons around and working. You could find many DIY solutions on where to start on YT. I've heard your soldering skills are good.... 0 noisy neighbor Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Hi, Josh! On FB, the current Marantz superstars are Arnel Bautista and Octavio Decio. Both very nice guys. You would have to ship, tho. I'm getting ready to ship my 2270 to Octavio...... 2 Quote

I have a 90s MN-made Eden bass amp that failed too and I know for a fact that Savage was an Authorized Service/Repair for them at one point. Great suggestion! Yes, my soldering skills are excellent but this deeper amp work is outside of my realm of expertise and I'd rather pay an experienced professional to do it 100% Absolutely Right. Thank you again tho for mentioning Savage! 18 hours ago, noisy neighbor said: Hi, Josh! On FB, the current Marantz superstars are Arnel Bautista and Octavio Decio. Both very nice guys. My college roommate had one of those in his room connected to some Cerwin Vega speakers, a Technics-by-Panasonic turntable too if I remember right: Black Sabbath and Van Halen records sounding incredible through it! I'll look up both guys now. TY! Edited January 8 by JGravelin 2 Quote
0 noisy neighbor Posted January 8 Posted January 8 In 1975, I used a bunch of my forklift driving money (gulp) for a 2230, a set of Speakerlab S3 kits and an AR turntable. Fantanstic setup! We beat the hell out of them for years. Still have the amp & speakers. At the same time, a soon to be friend bought a 2270. About 10 years ago, he just gave me the 2270! So finally, I'm gonna get these rebuilt, 70 first, then the 30. Prob be a month or 2 before I send it off.... Audio equipment stacked up with the guitar stuff.... I need a bigger house! BTW- I can play the audio stuff WAY better than the guitar stuff. (Dusty pic with vintage Singer for scale.) 5 Quote

My Dad had a pair of the Altec-Lansing "Voice Of The Theater" speakers in our living room: huge and totally massive things! You'd think that the 30w per channel from the 1060 would be underpowered but the neighbors could hear my pops blasting from blocks away. This era of Marantz is great, great stuff and I can't wait to get it fixed up. Again, keep me posted on your repair experience and end-result! Edited January 8 by JGravelin 3 Quote
0 duncans Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I use my Marantz 1060 daily !! Matching tuner as well! My Realistic Mini bookshelf speakers have been pumping for I don't know how many years. They, along with a passive Realistic 10" sub sound good enough for my used ears! I use to sell Marantz/JBL back in the mid 70s early 80s. It's a combination that's hard to beat! Of course VOTs' aren't too shabby either! Good luck with your resto search! 3 Quote

And, I think I found a guy local to me: old expert repair wizard. I've reached out to him via email, awaiting a reply: but he's reviewed and recognized on forums, all +++ feedback for all vintage gear like this .. Fellas! I'm stoked!!! 0 ARM OF HAMER Posted January 17 Posted January 17 (edited) Try Fette Electronics in Faribault, Mn. I know them well as I live here. They sold these Marantz receivers exclusively back in the day. The sons have a collection of them that would boggle your mind. For service and repair they ARE the experts and have been in business for years. Here Fette Electronics Edited January 17 by ARM OF HAMER 2 1 Quote

I just got off the phone with them, spoke with one of the brothers directly, and he explained everything and knew exactly what to do. Man, thank you for the heads up with Fette. You are a superstar. 1 Quote

My first gigging band we had a pair of A7-500 speakers and they were insanely efficient at 101dB. / 1 meter. That 101 dB. spec was full range and not just the horn/driver. Now, if you need even more output power, there's always the A1 system: https://www.psaudio.com/blogs/copper/an-a1-speaker-system Quote

We would gaze at the pages endlessly, and this was the one we all wanted. They were such great receivers back in the 70's. Owning a Marantz was like being the only one on the block with a Cadillac. 3 Quote

0 BoogieMKIIA Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Still a lot of great music, old and new. Got this to stream audio to my old Lux R1040 receiver, works great. Haven’t listened to any CDs recently. Some of these receivers have a smooth sound even though the specs look generic and similar to new stuff. Everyone wanted a Marantz. 1 Quote
0 Jimbilly Posted January 22 Posted January 22 I have a 1040, which is just a pre/switcher/amplifier, but a neat little unit, perfect for 'outboard' line level signals and bookshelf speakers. I love their design symmetry. I found it about 15-20 years ago (pawn shop), I knew the brand, and thinking that the $30 or similar was probably a pretty good deal. 3 Quote
0 JGravelin Posted January 24 Author Posted January 24 Dropped off at Fette yesterday. Pickup/return on call, but likely 2 weeks. I am stoked above and beyond about this! 5 Quote
0 BoogieMKIIA Posted January 25 Posted January 25 https://theauris.com/products/auris-blumehd-true-hi-fi-bluetooth-music-receiver I didn’t copy the link in my post. This is the BT receiver I use to stream to my old receiver. There are also WiFi versions. Maybe you prefer a turntable and vinyl, streaming is convenient. 1 Quote
