Steve Haynie Posted June 9, 2025 Posted June 9, 2025 There was some fun music from Sly and The Family Stone. I was never sure if Sly Stone backed away from the spotlight or if he was dropped by the music industry. 1 Quote

Dave Scepter Posted June 9, 2025 Posted June 9, 2025 (edited) I used to live down the street from him and often watched him drive up the road in his Rolls-Royce wearing a big hat, sun glasses, always sporting a smile 😃 Edited June 9, 2025 by Dave Scepter 7 Quote
BTMN Posted June 9, 2025 Posted June 9, 2025 (edited) Rest well Sly. My first concert at the age of 9 in the Spring of 1970. 💔❤️🩹❤️ Edited June 9, 2025 by BTMN 6 Quote
Willie G. Moseley Posted June 9, 2025 Posted June 9, 2025 A lotta people don't know that he was a producer in San Francisco during the advent of "psychedelic music." Created some innovative, genre-melding music that influenced a lotta folks but he was controversial for showing up late for gigs, drug use, and other stereotypical rock star behavior. I'm surprised he made it that long, as well. Gotta admit, however, that the performance in Woodstock is one for the ages. Exemplary of how to work an audience into a frenzy. One of the few occasions you'd see a Gibson jazzz box archtop in such a loud enivronment (I think it's an L-5, like Vince Martell and Gary Duncan played). And he choreography of Freddie Stone and Larry Graham absolutely killed. The zenith performance of a mercurial career. 6 Quote
JGale Posted June 9, 2025 Posted June 9, 2025 Damn. Saw him once at Tanglewood in my teens. He is my excuse for liking the Funk. 3 Quote
