cmatthes Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 I really searched for a decent (affordable) AC/EL bass for a couple of years and finally ended up pulling the plug on a Takamine FG512. I really didn't want to drop the coin for a new Martin, Guild or Ovation AC/EL bass, although I liked all three - the Tak was easily the best of the bunch in the sub-$1k price range. I tried a lot of others at NAMM and at various music stores first, but that one kept rising to the top of the pile. The Tak is a great bass for the money and I got a smokin' deal from Elduave. I've gigged with it, and it is great around the house. It's even been to a few campfires (ha ha!).
blackfbiv Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Mrs Blackfbiv surprised me with that Jasmine model. It is okay for noodling by myself, but I find it just can't keep up with my bud's acoustic (some kinda $1000 Takamine). Add a couple of singers and a violin and I'm buried. How does the mothercorp's Ac/El keep up volume-wise Chris? (talking campfire or living room setting)Dion
cmatthes Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 As long as I take out the Feedback Buster, it sounds fine!! Actually, I haven't come across ANY acoustic bass that really projects well acoustically beyond the Higher-end ones (Martin B-1, B40, Tak Limited, USA Ovation, the big Guild), but it works okay for anything I'll use it for. alpep Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I have a used USA Ovation 5 string that I bought for sue several years ago. She played it exactly twice, it was too "big" for her. she never bonded with it. e me if interested.
Steve Haynie Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 The Tacoma Thunderchief is the best sounding acoustic bass that I have heard. It actually sounds like a bass without being plugged in. I had a Sigma, heard a high dollar Guild and a Klein designed Taylor (I think it was a Taylor), and played some of the cheaper acoustic basses. The Tacoma kills them all.
