tomteriffic Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 It’s an ’81 Graphic Special that was rescued from Stonge’s Basement of Misfit Guitars. As Stonge will tell you, this one has been there. And back. And there again. Since I got it, it has gotten new pickups (white GFS humbuckers that sound great), new Hamer volume pots and the correct value tone network from Allparts and new knobs. The pots, pickups, and knobs as I got the guitar will be included. The pickups it came with appeared to be period correct DiMarzios with the hex screw polepieces, probably not original. The wiring, with the little mini-switch, was a rat’s nest and mostly didn’t work. I cleaned it up some and put the wiring back to stock in terms of the circuit. I also firmed up the grounding scheme and it’s pretty quiet these days. It has a brass nut which has an outside chance of being original per Stonge’s recollection and Jol’s spotty memory of fooling around with some brass nuts back then. It plays great and sounds fat and rich with the new pickemups. No breaks, but loads of dings, chips and buckle rash. No Hameritis. The frets have moderate wear down around the ‘cowboy chord’ region. It has the checkerboard logo. Here’s a glamour shot that Mike_C took. Stonge’s original eBay shots can be found HERE and I’ll shoot a couple of new fronts with the new pickups and (black bell) knobs. It comes with a case that is probably original but only good for shipping in. Latches work but theres a split at the bottom. Yeah, it’s been around, but it’s rare and cool and it’s $450 plus shipping. Hate to let this one go but what can you do?
