santellavision Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 And never use Armor All on an old Fender tweed or you get this...
DaveL Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 After you clean your black tolex... A black sharpie kicks ass for touching up little nicks. dab it then blend lightly with your finger... I've also used it to touch up nicks on on the edge of the black part of a hamer headstock... Old toothbrushes work well in getting gunk out of spots...
Thundernotes Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Old toothbrushes work well in getting gunk out of spots... OLD toothbrushes!!!! Dammit, I knew something tasted funny........
luiss Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 I just cleaned an old amp(early 50's) with warm water with a bit of soup over a rag and aplying some elbow grease and the "tolex" lifted and got worse so be carefull....
Steve Haynie Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Was it really tolex? Could it have been a different type of vinyl product or treated cloth? Tolex was developed by Goodyear, and Fender started using it in the early 60's.

It depends on the kind of soup. Chicken noodle is best. Never - I repeat - NEVER use vegetable soup on tolex.
BubbaVO Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Very interesting reading. I don't agree with some things that have been posted. I'll share my experiences. I've tried the foaming bathroom cleaners, but the foam is a pain in the ass. Try applying it to the amp instead.
