Mindseyes Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Great catch!I love both of mine.now put some QP's in there and sell me the pickguard.....lolMy 96 came with EMG's stock in it .....
BadgerDave Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 And the amazing thing is, I bought nothing!Except a few CDs at the Borders across the street. I'm now absolutely certain that the Drive By Truckers are the best band in the world. Souther Culture had me 90% of the way there, Southern Rock Opera pushed me to the edge, and "Buttholeville" from Gangstabilly closed the deal.BTW, Chris, the Keith Urban CD sucked. Your comparison to John Mayer was right on. Better player, similar songwriting, worse production. Very dissapointing. Thanks for making the trip, Matt. I'm connecting well with the Gretsch.
MCChris Posted January 28, 2007 Author Posted January 28, 2007 Thanks for making the trip, Matt. I'm connecting well with the Gretsch. And you say you bought nothing LOL!

You must see them live. Three great song writers in the band. Three guitars. Both Isbell & Patterson have solo records coming out this year. If you have never heard the truckers go out & find Southern Rock Opera or Decoration Day. All of there Record are great but there two are the Jems of there past work.
BCR Greg Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Since we've morphed into songwriters, I am now in love with the Raconteurs. Considering that I HATE the White Stripes, this is something of a revelation.Drive By Truckers are awesome as well.
elduave Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I am now in love with the Raconteurs. A hearty + 1! I can't believe it took me this long. I thought Steady As She Goes was alright, they sounded very intriguing at Virgin Festival (I was far away, didn't really see them but heard alot of it, sounded like Zeppelin), heard Level on Sirius, killer song, then saw them on Austin City Limits and was like, WOAH!Drive By Truckers have the coolest song I've heard this decade. Let There Be Rock.
BCR Greg Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 I had the Austin City Limits show on while rebuilding a carburetor, so I was not watching. The band really impressed me, so I stopped and watched a bit. Had I seen the White Stripes guy before listening, I would not have given them a chance! That was one of the best ACL shows in recent history, to me.
MCChris Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 Well I didn't get a chance to personally play it last night (fortunately we had plenty of real bass players in the house, so I wasn't pressed into duty) but everyone who took a crack at it had nothing but raves. Another step toward converting all these young guys I jam with into Hamer fans!
BadgerDave Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Chris, you forgot to mention one very unique characteristic of the bass - the complete and utter absence of any smell. Most used instruments smell like something - smoke, Febreeze, dryer sheet, sweat, etc. This one has no smell whatsoever. Wierd!I have no idea why I thought the Drive By Truckers had an album called "Souther Culture". Guess I'm mixing band names and album titles. The record I was thinking of was "The Dirty South". I think it's their most consistant and accessable release to date and a great place to start for a DBT newbie. It also contains two of my favorite Truckers songs - Tornadoes and Daddy's Cup.
lonote049 Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Excellent score! I have the same color scheme but mine has turned very, very yellow.
Jimbilly Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Nice score! My Cruise 5 came stock with EMG's (but not w/ exposed pole pieces), and the stock controls on mine are identical to yours. I bought mine new, and hated the tortoise guard from day 1, so I bought a MOP gaurd for it, I'll bet you can find one of those somewhere. Mine:
Jimbilly Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Also, try this experiment: cut a wooden shim just thin enough to slide in front of the 2tek when the strings are loose. When the strings are tightened the shim will pressure-fit and take the 'icepick' out of the 2tek, but it still seems to keep more than adequate sustain. I did that to mine, the shims not coming out, it's nicely warmer now.

discountsounds Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 I'm now absolutely certain that the Drive By Truckers are the best band in the world. Souther Culture had me 90% of the way there, Southern Rock Opera pushed me to the edge, and "Buttholeville" from Gangstabilly closed the deal. +1. They are my favorite active band (this title previously held by Pavement and The Replacements). If you like The Dirty South, SRO and Gangstabilly, you might as well own the entire catalog which means you need: Pizza Deliverance, Decoration Day and last year's Blessing and a Curse. There's also an old live album, Alabama Ass Whuppin' which is good, but not great. Although it does have their outstanding cover of "People Who Died". +1 for The Raconteurs, too. That ACL show was the only decent episode of ACL all season with the exception of Ray Davies. I was fortunate to see them at the ACL festival last year, too. For those who like DBT, I highly recommend Glossary from Murfreesboro, TN. You probably won't find their records at Best Buy, but they are worth seeking out. Get last year's For What I Don't Become and their previous effort How We Handle Our Midnights. www.glossary.us www.myspace.com/glossary
