BTMN Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 I have been urged to post this here. I hope Hamer isn't cheesed by the plan. I took an idea that was custom ordered through BCR Music, shown here on the HFC, and turned it into a Dean to be made. http://www.deanguitars.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8678 I have given credit to BCR for the inspiration and wish to say THANKS to Duane for the idea and the G.A.S.! This is the inspiration. These are the specs: Korean made P-90 equipped Z/Explorer based on the '79 series Z Platform Light brown stained Mahogany body and neck Clearcoat Flametop veneer( no double stain) Single layer Cream binding to body and fretboard Amber '79 series knobs and cream toggle switch Chrome String plate and bridge Cream covered P-90s Rosewood fretboard with 10 MOP(fake same as on DOA guitars)Block inlays Chrome grovers on '79 series Blackface headstock This is the dealer selling them and they are a "hair" under $500 with case. Free call to Dave at Bass and Treble Music in St. Joe., Mo. 1.877.417.9223 I choose to ask Dean to make it for affordability purposes by basing it on their Korean made '79 series guitars. I heard that they would make short runs if requested so I asked and then put the idea on the Dean board to check if enough were interested. It has grown from there. The Flametop veneers on these can be really cool. I think some of you may have seen the Lefty Z I had recently. So, who's onboard? BTW, I get nothing other than to be able to order one for me.
cmatthes Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Very cool idea, Gene!!!!Is there a mockup of this one? Just curious, but I'm sure it'll be nice.
BTMN Posted May 9, 2005 Author Posted May 9, 2005 Got moved from outer circle huh? Ok.No mockup that I know of.
cmatthes Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 More people can view it here, I'd say.Again, a very good idea and nice that they can do custom runs like that on Import models. Is the headstock going to be bound?
Jorge Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Hey BTMN, what is the headstock shape going to be? Hockey Stick, or the regular split headtock?
cmatthes Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Split "V" is the standard shape for the '79 Series.I don't know that I've ever seen a hockey stick headstock on a Dean Z. Just glad it isn't that "Shrimp fork" thingie!
BTMN Posted May 9, 2005 Author Posted May 9, 2005 Neck and headstock will look like the one in the middle only rosewood. Dont know if light or dark colored rosewood.
kizanski Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 I don't know that I've ever seen a hockey stick headstock on a Dean Z. Just glad it isn't that "Shrimp fork" thingie! I think they should go with the SPORK!
cmatthes Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 Gene - thanks for the cutoff date. I'm checking into that...BTW, check your mailbox tomorrow!
BTMN Posted May 16, 2005 Author Posted May 16, 2005 Deadline, if you are thinking about ordering MIGHT get moved up to 5/20. As in THIS Friday. Pretty neat concept and only 12 being made.
tomteriffic Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Gene, what's the story on the necks? I haven't handled a Dean since one of the very first prototypes back in the '70's.
BTMN Posted May 17, 2005 Author Posted May 17, 2005 This import line has a medium D shape most of the time. Brew seemed to like the shape of his ML he had last year. You know he isn't a fan of skinny necks. The peg head doesn't cause any string dampining like I thought they would all these years. Decent guitar for the momey. Not very many P90 Explorer design based guitars either. Thanks again to BCRGreg, Hamer, and Duane for the inspiration.
tomteriffic Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 Kwap. Homey don't do 'D' shapes. They fight with the first knuckle on my first finger and it gets flat painful to play after half an hour or so. Rats! Big effing rats with tails this effing long!
Jorge Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 Hey EAP, is this the headstock shape you will have pretty soon up your ass?
edgar_allan_poe Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 Hey EAP, is this the headstock shape you will have pretty soon up your ass? tongue.gifROTFLMAO!!! Good one.....however...I am betting that this was simply a case of cyberballs. Were we to actually meet..I can guarantee you that it wouldn't be my ass that this went up. HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH
