Jakeboy Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I am contemplating a Special that i would want refinished...I'm waiting on Hamer's reply but since several on here have had it done, I thought I'd ask.I would probably have the trans red refinished to trans-orange if that's possible. $$ ??Thaks!Mark
kizanski Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 What year Special? I'm just curious. It also might help to determine if it's even at all worth the expense.
MCChris Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Trans orange is possible (at least it was) and very cool IMO:
kizanski Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Indeed - Trans Orange rules, but if it costs more than the guitar is worth....
MCChris Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Indeed - Trans Orange rules, but if it costs more than the guitar is worth....Understood. I was just tempting him with a visual. Besides, is there anything in the world more fun than spending someone else's money? LOL
David B Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I don't think Hamer refinishes guitars anymore. I had them do it for me on a number of guitars years ago in the early 90s & it was $250 - $300. It will be MUCH higher now if they do it.

cmatthes Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Ditto on DavidB's comment above. I don't think they've been actively taking refin work with their current heavy production load, but the only way to really know is if you get the nod from New Hartford. The advantage there is that you get a nice factory job, can get a replacement logo (if needed) and get keep the serial # intact. That being said, if they can't accommodate you at this time, there are a number of options for refinishing either here or outside where people have had great success.
kizanski Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I asked last year and they said no.Did they say "No," or "Not at his time"? (That's usually how they say "No.")
bubs_42 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I asked last year and they said no.Did they say "No," or "Not at his time"? (That's usually how they say "No.") His time? Who's His and what does he do over there?

Who's His and what does he do over there?"His" is "He who am," kinda like Yahweh (or at least he thinks he is).Sorry. "Not at this time" is what I meant to type.
serial Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I've had three or four Hamers refinished at the factory, but that was a while ago ('98-2001 or so). Prices were very reasonable for top-notch work. I don't think that they are set up to do refins at this time though.
