Mike_C Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Don't know what GBase charges to be a member dealer and list on the site but I find some interesting things there and it's a fun place to visit to get some eye candy. I have to admit I haven't made any purchases from my GBase searches but never say never.
tobereeno Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 I dont generally check it out, but the first time I did, this came up: nothing as dazzling since, but ya never know
Jason01 Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 I never really noticed it until that pic tob, what the heck is your doubleneck? Its got a cali doubleneck body but neither fretboard has 27 frets and the headstock on the 6 string is like the diablos. Some kind of doubleneck chapiforniablo?
tobereeno Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 it was a custom order Californian, ordered with 24 frets, the custom pickup layout, blade switches, the offset dots, and a Virtuoso headstock (angled back, not like the straight Centaura/Diablo headstocks). The body is Californian though, and the necks are three-piece, so I think of it as a Californian, although this has been an issue of debate once or twice here on the HFC.further mods I've done on it were swapping the original EMG's first from 89's to 85's, then chucking them altogether and going with Duncans, putting in Sperzel tuners, and changing the bridge to a Floyd Pro.
alpep Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 dave send me an e mail. I have some info you may want to consider
Craig Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Looking only, I have never and will never buy there, it seems most stuff is overpriced.
marcnorth Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 I have bought a few guitars through gbase. Most of the dealers I've bought from always came down off of the advertised price.
serial Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 As Craig said, 99 44/100% of the stuff has such ridiculous pricing on it that I avoid it. I used to look there a little, but haven't in probably a year or so and that is more to check out certain features of a model I'm looking at, not to purchase. The thing I hate the most about some guitar dealers is rampant over there-the dreaded "call for price". I will not do that ever and know dozens of people who feel this way as well. If you're selling something (this is on used items, so I'm not talking MAP issues-I'm aware of those), tell me what you're selling it for and I'll either buy it or pass. Too many times, a dealer will toss out a higher price than what is marked on the item in their shop just because they've "got a live one on the phone" or think that they might.
Caddie Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 I go there every couple of weeks to see if anything interesting has popped up. It seems that most of the listings are a wee bit stale. I assume that's probably a function of how diligently the individual guitar dealers are updating their offerings. I also check to see if any new dealers have appeared that are local to me or to get a list of dealers in a city I may be visiting.
quik Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Serial is right. The prices are too high, and "call for price" is a joke. Used items should have the bottom line price listed.
jerseydrew Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Serial is right. The prices are too high, and "call for price" is a joke. Used items should have the bottom line price listed. I check it out once in a blue moon. Prices too high. Same old dealers. And I HATE "call for price". I won't do it. I used to email for price but they don't get back to you. Ebay is pretty much the way to go or The Gear Page.
elduave Posted March 4, 2005 Author Posted March 4, 2005 I hear ya on most of that stuff. Old listings, high prices, same old dealers. Used items should definately be priced but new you have to put call for price due to MAP restrictions. Please understand that. You're "allowed" to advertise $2549 for a new Standard Custom. I would think anyone here would see that price and blow right by it.
Guest Yellovee Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 I haven't been on Gbase for at least 3 years for all the reasons mentioned above. I think it's good exposure for somebody doing a general search, but for selling new stock where you've got MAP restrictions, I'd probably put the money into something else. It has kind of gone the way of Guitar shows and stocklists in Vintage Guitar...
JES1680 Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 I check it once and a while. Found my Top Hat on Gbase new at Eddies. Got a great price as they would match anyone. The used Hamers seem a bit on the high side to put it mildy.
