ecnal Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Don't know how many fans are out there, but I just caught Iron Maiden in San Antonio kicking off this leg of their tour. It was really, really good. The setlist is great, mostly stuff from piece of mind through Seventh Son, the set is the egyptian powerslave stuff, and it seemed like the biggest production I've seen from them. I actually think they are better than the first time I saw them in 1986, and there's more than just nostalgia going for them. I am a huge VH fan also, but Maiden has aged about a million times better.I liked hearing rime of the ancient mariner, the clairvoyant, and some others I had not heard forever. We were in the pit, second row, which was a mixed experience for me. I liked the view but didn't like the guy behind me's junk pressed into the small of my back. Also, we ran into Bruce and Janick at a bar after the show. Rod Smallwood was there too, I don't know why I recognized him. Janick in particular is very very nice and talked to me at the bar for about 20 minutes, and later came to our table and shook hands all around. He is a class act and a funny guy. Bruce was cordial but seemed more interested in talking to his crew when a couple of people approached him for pictures. We didn't really want to bother anyone; maybe we should have. The bar was not at all crowded, and only two other couples that had been to the concert came in. Everyone stayed until closing, it was a fun night. There are a few good youtube vids up. Our seats were directly in front of Dave and Adrian. I recommend any fan or ex-fan of theirs catch the show. I'm thinking about going to another one.

elduave Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 I liked the view but didn't like the guy behind me's junk pressed into the small of my back. Nice review and after event. It's been a LONG time since I've seen Maiden (Somewhere In Time maybe?).
edgar_allan_poe Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 One of the best live bands ever. I will try to catch them this year. I have seen them in ages, but they are easily one of the top live bands I have ever seen.
JES1680 Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Powerslave was the last one I caught. Great band, great show. I'd love to see them again.

He could've had a comeback you didn't bargain for. Thanks for the review. I saw they were on the road again and was wondering if it would be worth seeing them. If memory serves, the ticket prices were a lot more reasonable than the VH shows. Seems like you've tipped me into going.
Eric Weston Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Powerslave was the last one I caught. Great band, great show. I'd love to see them again. +1.....It's been awhile My first band played 8 of their tunes......I'm a fan
Steve Haynie Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 The last time I saw Iron Maiden was in 2000. We had to go to Pittsburgh and Philadelphia to see two shows. They just have not been down South the last few times they have visited North America.
