hikarateboy Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Well feedback the Best of series has been great. Thanks to all those involved in 1&2. I have received quite a few requests for inclusion on the next round so nows the time to determine the format and logistics.Feel free to chime in with suggestions or ideas.
Jeff R Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 I like the full blown CD, but considering how many people may want to contribute this time around, you may have to go with a virtual package and mp3s. Unless you're planning on putting a multi-disc box set together.
pesocaster Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Just an idea.... (maybe a nightmare)What about adding / hosting space for an mp3 on each members page... Each member can pay a small fee (donation) for the space... then a if you want a "real CD" burn your own mix?Or edited to add .... the mp3 page you need to donate to get into ... similar to the outer circle....
hikarateboy Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 What about adding / hosting space for an mp3 on each members page... Each member can pay a small fee (donation) for the space... Thats a good idea and you should be able to upload an mp3 to your members page right now and do this. One of our hfc members is looking tying the member pages admin to your board id so it should get even better and easier. If that happens we should be able manage links to mp3s from your profile.I like the idea of actually compiling best of's as a group and having a page for each edition and if we go virtual the number of volumes is unlimited.
blackfbiv Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 I voted for the CD option, but I'll support it either way... Any idea on a time line yet? I'd like the opportunity to at least submit something this time around... whether I/we make the cut or not, that's not important. Dion
MCChris Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Thats a good idea and you should be able to upload an mp3 to your members page right now and do this. I've uploaded several HUGE MP3s onto mine and there appears to be room for lots more. Very generous amount of storage space on the member pages.
jwhitcomb3 Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 A virtual CD takes less time, effort and money to produce, doesn't have nearly the size and space constraints and is almost effortless to distribute. Sounds like a no-brainer to me!-Jonathan
hikarateboy Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 Any idea on a time line yet? I'd like the opportunity to at least submit something this time around... whether I/we make the cut or not, that's not important. During the last go round ALL submissions were accepted. I believe that this is the way it should always be. If you want people to hear your stuff thats fantastic as long as you also take the credit for it and people know its your stuff. Is two months too short? too long? As I'm sure many of you know, creating an honest to goodness CD takes a bit of time. Obviously it has to be compiled. Artwork created. Sent off the be pressed, returned and ultimately sold and sent out. Not to mention this would require presales as I covered financing on the last one (anybody want to buy a copy of best of 1&2? ) If we go vitrual route time frame is greatly reduced but we would still solicit an HFCer to create the CD Artwork (cover, liner notes, tray card, available as a pdf to be downloaded and printed. I can understand the argument for both. For some being included on a real printed CD is a chance they might not get again but it does cost money and means Pre-sales. logisticaly the virtual one is a lot easier but its not as much the real deal.
hikarateboy Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 I should also mention that covers will not be accepted. Why? If we created a "real" cd, depending on the number of CDs produced we would have to pay for a license Would need seperate license to distribute on the web. That said if someone really wants to include a cover and is willing to pay for the license we could do it.
jettster Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Can I submit a virtual tune? Either one is cool with me, I always enjoy hearing everyones tunes.
ctrixie Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 With dial up only at home, I gotta opt for the real CD. No way can I do this at work! But if not possible, s'OK I'll get it somehow.
SirDouglas Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 at least wait til my house gets here from germany(next month) god im having withdrawls... 1 month already with nothing... greg hurryup and git my chit done.... Sir Douglas Randy
hudpucker Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Does it have to be 'conventional' material?I have some stuff that I think is quite good but it's not very...'friendly' and is definitely not orthodox. Very much music for the fringes, I guess.
cmatthes Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Hudpucker:ALL styles are welcome. This isn't a board exclusively for power pop junkies, Metalheads, Jazzers, or whatever - bring it on. It's about PLAYING what YOU like!Celebrate diversity...

hikarateboy Posted June 17, 2005 Author Posted June 17, 2005 Does it have to be 'conventional' material?I have some stuff that I think is quite good but it's not very...'friendly' and is definitely not orthodox. Very much music for the fringes, I guess. On the last one some people questioned me on including Misery since it was a bit unconventional in a very outside frippish sort of way. Not for everyone but some people really get off on it. I stick to the rule of "if you did it with a Hamer it qualifies"At the opening of the new walker art center here in Mpls there was a group with 4 half stacks in a circle feeding back one note for at 25 mins bring out different overtones with pedals. These sound changed very slowly. Honestly I hated it for the first 10 mins but if you let yourself you can get into listening to the overtones modulating around and it starts to work, well at least for me it did.So, My take? Record you playing a Hamer and submit it.
hikarateboy Posted June 17, 2005 Author Posted June 17, 2005 It looks as though we are going virtual route. For those that cant download the tracks we'll work it out and worst case I can send you a CDR. ATTENTION HFCers with Design skills**** Anyone interested in doing the layout/artwork for this one? ****
wyldbil Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 My missus is a pro graphic designer, and I am volunteering her. E-mail me privately Ted, and we'll work it out. Needless to say, I do have a song to submit.
