They really pulled out the stops on this run. If I didn't already have one (and had the extra $1k or so!), I'd be seriously bangin' on this one. Don't miss this one, kids.

so you had this bad boy too? I bought it from a guy in the bay area. When did you have it?

I didn't have it, but I came pretty close to buying it about a year and a half ago.

Saving the pix came in handy, eh?

They're technically not my pictures, so be my guest.

Good luck with the sale.

Why you gotta punk me out like that, Kiz? No one whores out my artwork, NOBODY!

Yo, Tom, "a guy in the bay area" says hello...

BTW, someone buy this guitar. It is seriously nice, featherweight, plays like a dream.

Hey Rob. So I was just down in the basement tonight and played this one, and I'm now thinking I'm going to hold on to it after all. It truly is an awesome guitar; the bridge pickup is very hot, hotter than I like, and I've been into more of a Peter Green thing lately that a metal thing, but I think I need to keep it. I never liked JB pickups, but I wanted to keep this all original. I think I might bite the bullet and go put in 59s or alnico 2 pros, we'll see.

"Punk'd" or not, Rob was a class act on that deal in every respect.

Glad you're keeping it. Everyone deserves at least ONE top-quality guitar, right? :)

I'm hearing you on the korina/JB combo. Can't say I'm a fan of JBs, so I say, go ahead and try some Voodoo '60s and see what that does.

There are a couple of original korina vectors I've been looking at currently, which have been on sale forever locally. I really like my Dean V, but I am currently korinaless.

From the Godfather, Brando-style: just when I thought I WANTED IT

(just about to get a $2k check on a les paul deal);

he KEEPS IT!! :)

seriously, glad to see ya keep it; and, now, the wife unit gets the money for home improvement related programs.... urgh!!

 curious...why the dislike for the JB's in the neck for a korina plank. my RNS #23 plays and sounds excellent with the JB in the neck. always interested on other's opinions and such.

kilroy posts.

Yeah I know I'm a ditz :) for posting it and then falling for the the guitar again. I've given up some good guitars that way; maybe you can talk me into it or catch me on an off night and it can be had. About the JB, the tones that kill me these days are peter green, and also the robben ford tone that he gets out of the baker. With a little knob twiddling, my studio custom can just about nail both of those, but on the vector, the JB sounds so much hotter. I have the pickup screwed way down, and it's still in your face and loud as hell. On the plus side, it cuts through like nobody's business, but when my dogs see me pull that axe out of the case they head for the hills. I kind of think the korina has a brighter sound to it, but perhaps it's just this one; the wood is quite different than the newer korina v's I think. For rock rhythm, using the JB/bridge, it is the best sounding guitar I have ever played, period, but for lead the JB is too crisp for me. I end up playing rhythm on the bridge pup, and lead on the neck, which is a 59.

Kilroy, do you mean a JB/bridge? If your Nielsen came with two JBs, that's pretty cool!

My thing is, I've been playing Duncan JB/59, JB/Jazz in Hamers and others for a LONG time and have just gotten a bit fatigued by the midrange hump and the high output. That being said, the aforementioned Duncan combo sounds killer in the korina vector. Killer as well in the 12lb korina Standard-tombstone-on-a-strap I used to own.

Original, schmaniginal: If you wanna try different p/u's, go ahead. It won't kill the guitar...
