ScubaMarket Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Please PM me if you've gotta nice 79-80' Standard you would like to sell. Dot neck is just fine with me. Thanksedited to revise finish. I'll consider any 79-80' sunburst
serial Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Please PM me if you've gotta nice Sunburst in 59 burst.ThanksActually, "'59 burst" is a more recent finish. In the 70s, everything was "sunburst", but graded on a 1-5 scale of light to dark. Hamer's 90s "59 burst" is actually pretty ugly IMHO-looks more like a 1960 Burst finish-too orange and red for my liking-almost neon. Hamer did some amazing sunburst finishes in the 70s and early 80s and recaptured that nicely since the late 90s or so.

I agree they look best for my liking too. It also matches well with my 79 standard.Bob
flattop Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I think the mid 90's are rather nice I.M.O. although i do like the late 70's ones too. 90's ones are more decorative ,wouldnt say they were ugly.

Man that does look nice. I have (2) 2008 standards and I must say the quality is still there at Hamer. I love the way they look, feel , sound and play. I bought 6 in the last few weeks for my new studio Im building. Wifes making me sell the Harley though.. Now this is BUTT ugly. At least to my taste, however I may have to buy it and shoot it to get it out of misery.. JK 79 Sunburst.... Here's my Harley im offloading to give me MUCHO denaro GAS $$. She has 10K of tires and pipes etc...Harley 100th anniversary eddition. Harley purists say this isnt a "Real Harley" Actually, thats what I like most about it... Its fast, reliable and my wife doesnt have to pull a trailer for me if I break down Hopefully my wife will get off my a$$ and I will keep it. This weeks aquisitions for my hamer collection.... 1984 Blitz Japanese rising sun flag 1983 Blitz Zebra 1982 Vector flying V My fav of the week. This one my wife thinks is ugly and threw her over the edge The wood grain and coloring look very nice. The picture did not do this justice. Todays snatch $600 FM Custom.......SWEET
carfish7 Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Hmmm, Harleys for Hamers - I'm down with that swap! Nice work, but the last one is an FM Special and I think the Blitz is "Zebra" (I made the same mix-up and was corrected forthwith). I meant to ask when you came to MN to pick up the Standard - was the seller a man-mountain named Bart? I swear I know that guitar. Carry on, there are MORE vintage hamers to be had and with bike season coming offloading the H-D should be a bit easier. But where is the picture? 100th Anniversary Sporty by chance? CJ

CJ Thanks CJ for the correction! Yes, she's a well taken care of 100th year anniversary edition. Slayer wheels & rotors. Rhinehart pipes. I have around 25K inveted in it. Im not too crazy about selling her. My Hamer Standard 0192 belonged to a guy named Jon. He is a man-mountain of a man and had the guitar since he was 18. It was bitter sweet because i knew he didnt really want to get rid of the guitar. I've been there too so i know how he felt. I swore I would never let that happen to me again and have learned many things since to make myself valuable. I hope to have a group picture of all the Hamers this weekend. Thanks everyone for the PM's Consequently I've shot most my wad on (2) vintage 78' & 79' Sunbursts that are on the way. I'm only in the market now for more 4 digit 74-81 Standard's Thanks
BadgerDave Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Can't see the photo of the bike Any more?
ScubaMarket Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Can't see the photo of the bike Any more? My former domain/website host (strorefront.net) went bankrupt and have left us high and dry. Sooo we bought our own server and my pics should be back up tomorrow along with my 500 ebay store pics including my V-rod. I also bought some new domains to host my Hamer pics. Self reliance is a must these days. I also bought old ugly today. I was assured the picture didnt do her justice..... I love the old dot necks. My southern guitar heros played dot necks..... Photo credit hamer website.. Randy is my luthier...... Randys shop is a great place to hang out. He's a humble southern man who I idolize. He even did custom work for Elvis that Gibson could NOT do at the time. Randy wood guitars Gene does thsse pics look familiar??? 10K$ when your ready to sell her. Hows that for a dot neck? Seriously though. I'm still in the market for the 4 digit Standards 74-80 Thanks
serial Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 One of the Medlocke guitars was owned by a bandmate of an HFCer-he sold it w/o giving the HFCer a shot at it IIRC...!
ScubaMarket Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 One of the Medlocke guitars was owned by a bandmate of an HFCer-he sold it w/o giving the HFCer a shot at it IIRC...! WOW.. I bet the dude didnt get half of what he would of got for it here either. I and I'm sure many others would give mega$$ for one of those Medlocke Sunbursts Standards.. Do you know what the serial #'s on his are? Thanks
cmatthes Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 If I recall correctly, that one had "Ricky" on the truss rod cover and the screw holes from the removed vibrato. Here's a pic I snapped of it a few years back...note both Pat DiNizio (Smithereens) and "the look"!!
Feynman Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 WOW.. I bet the dude didnt get half of what he would of got for it here either.Yeah, now that you're here! Most of us are cheap bastards.

We can all live vicariously through Mr ScubaMan's quest and be willing enablers as needed. As long as he attends as many HFC functions as possible and lets us fawn over (and possibly sweat upon) his assembled herd. CJ

I aint buying them to flip unless its to flip up to another 4 digit standard. The Harley pics back up if anyone wants to check her out. If you happen to own 2 of those Medlocke Standards I'll swap out title for title
BTMN Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 There is a strong possibility that is Sherry Baby in Dave's hands! That other one is a Ron Wood one, look at the inlays. Which as mentioned before is around the time your's and mine were made. He might have been picking 0189 up.
cmatthes Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Gene - grab a shot of the back of SBaby - pretty good odds, eh?
ScubaMarket Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 Gene - grab a shot of the back of SBaby - pretty good odds, eh? That would be cool! Guys I got 2 of my sunbursts in today. (1) 78' & (1) 79. The tops look awesome! The 78' Sunburst needs some work and i knew this when I bought it. The bridge, shims etc need to be replaced. Any thoughts on who may have these? Or perhaps someone has the list of materials and B/P specs to make a new one? Please PM me if you do know the wherabouts of this. Thanks! Bob

Please PM me if you do know the wherabouts of this. There have been a few HFC'ers who have done pretty much spot-on repros. The ones I've had were clones of an early '80s bridge unit and were great.

cmatthes Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 I believe at least two of those are in circulation (as in , not with Ricky).

My Grandma had a fiddle and she could get down. It was past through the family from many generations. It has rattle snake buttons inside which are rumored to help the tone. From what i understand granny's fiddle "had the tone". It would be neet to see where Ricky's hamer standards wound up Thanks
