BCR Greg Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Restoring a killer PRS for a customer, and the original pickup and sweet switch have been lost down through the years. Anyone have what the guy needs?
cmatthes Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Those won't be cheap. The last old (correct) sweet switch I saw sold for almost $500. Can't even begin to think what the old "Pre T" pickups would sell for these days. Did you check over on the BAM Forum? Those guys might be able to point you in the right direction.I'm sure your customer is looking for the original '85 part, but there are some good modern repros or similar old stock items that pop up every now and then.Good luck! Sounds like a very cool restoration.
hamerhead Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 $500 for a switch?!?I am SOOOO glad I'm a Hamer guy.
cmatthes Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Crazy, eh?! I think in the real world, that's a $2.00 part.
cmatthes Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 They don't stock the "original" ones. I did come across a guy who had NOS sweet switches from the '90s, I believe. I think he was only (relative term, of course) asking $75 each.
specialk Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Ok, I'll bite. WTF is a sweet switch? An out-of-phase sour switch?
Hamer Bass Head Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Ok, I'll bite. WTF is a sweet switch?it makes the guitar sound like a Hamer.
Mindseyes Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Ok, I'll bite. WTF is a sweet switch?it makes the guitar sound like a Hamer.!!!!!!!!WINER!!!!!!!!!!!!lol.........post of the week!!!!!!!I think ive heard it's suposta sound like a mile of cord...........or something like that
billywade Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 If I recall correctly the Sweet Switch (a two position mini toggle) was there in lieu of the tone control on many early (before '90?) PRSi.
SteveB Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Also, pretty sure Will Boggs restored an old T pickup for Frankie on BirdsAndMoons, and he might have made measurements etc to be able to make replacements. Somewhere at BAM there is a thread about that.
