BadgerDave Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 ebay link to 59 Les Paul auction This one is on ebay, I'll include free shipping and insurance to HFC members in the US, discounted equivalently to non-US addresses. I'll even ship to Canada! I'll consider partial trades from HFC members, but I'm really looking to free up some cash. Things I would be interested in: Huber or James Trussart guitars, Stuff that I could easily flip, like Les Paul reissues, PRS guitars, Nash Teles or basses, Rickenbackers, etc. Not interested in amps or effects. Thanks for looking.
MCChris Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I've seen this guitar in person. It is incredible. The fretboard is particularly exquisite.
Guest pirateflynn Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 That thing is CRAZY! I came within an inch of buying a '59 Jr. but thought I would miss the neck pickup. This might be the cleanest Special I've ever seen. Good luck Dave!
sirDaniel Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 time to pay for college?wont you be buying high/selling lo?can i bid on the rug??
BlueRedWhite Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 THE original Special, from the golden years, with TWO p-90s, and the quintessential color...i need a shower now... what a beauty!
BadgerDave Posted August 25, 2009 Author Posted August 25, 2009 time to pay for college?wont you be buying high/selling lo?can i bid on the rug??I'm hoping to break even. I met with a realtor last night and discovered that the value of my townhouse has decreased to the point that I've lost every bit of equity. I'll be lucky to walk away without having to write a check at closing when I sell. That's a pretty sobering experience. I've decided that I'd prefer to hold some cash rather than have it invested in guitars right now.No crisis, in fact, this is partially prompted by a very positive development - I'm getting married and acquiring a 5 year old daughter in January. Consequently, my risk tolerence and priorities are changing. What'll you give me for the rug?
carfish7 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Good luck and congrats! That guitar is stunningly cool. Z

bubs_42 Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Congrats Badger! Sounds like great new and good luck with the auction.
sirDaniel Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 can we hijack this thread fully? or should we just start another called:Oh how my life has changed since I moved to the Windy City...ON topic. That guitar is the CATS MEOW. I purged DNA when I saw the photos on the Dave's Guitar site.
Thunderface Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Congrats BadgerDave, on the new additions. If you think about it, perhaps holding onto that beautiful guitar could one day pay for a quarter of college for your daughter. It's a shame to let something like that go, but I think we can all understand when life gets in the way of our more pleasant pursuits.
BadgerDave Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 Thanks for the nice comments and good wishes. They are very much appreciated.I'll be staying in the area and keeping the same job. My fiance has a house in Algonquin and we're having a market analysis done on that in a few days. We may settle there, or if the prospects of selling her house are better, we may all move into my place for a while. It's all good!
Thunderface Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 BD, where do you stand on this whole Favre thing? You see, I live in the Twin Cities, and while I'm happy to have him on our side, it still seems wrong.
BadgerDave Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 BD, where do you stand on this whole Favre thing? You see, I live in the Twin Cities, and while I'm happy to have him on our side, it still seems wrong. I'm in the minority, I guess. I've seen, either in person or on TV, every single NFL game Brett played in. I remain a fan, though his recent behavior is disturbing. I hope he is personally successful and that the Vikings finish a single game behind Green Bay in the NFC North. I'd love to see a Packers/Vikings playoff game. If the Packers aren't good enough this year, I wouldn't mind seeing Brett win another Super Bowl with Minnesota. IIRC, that would be a new experience for the Purple.
Thunderface Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I doubt it will come to that. There's already reports of a divided lockerroom in Vikings Land. This will be a soap opera like it was last year with the Jets, with everything good as long as he wins.
earachemyeye Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 I also have seen and played this guitar. I can't imagine finding one in as fine condition would be an easy task. The color is perfect IMHO and it plays like a dream. Best wishes for the sale and your upcoming nuptuals. You'll make a great dad.Joe
bmenary Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 I love this guitar.. I have a 59' in Cherry.. Man it sounds good-
fractal Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Wow, amazing.Good luck with the sale. I wish I had a spare 15K lying around.
RickV Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I had a friend (former bandmate) who lived in Eau Claire, WI in the mid-`70's. He worked for a mom-pop music store that specialized in organs. He would load up the Conn double keyboard in the back of the delivery truck and head out into the country. He would do "cold calls" on farmers. Imagine dragging in a full size organ into a house to do a demonstration? Anyway... on one sale, the farmer asked if my friend would take anything in trade to get the price down. Bill asked what he had. The farmer pulled a Gibson guitar case out of the closet. Bill opened it up, only to find an absolute mint condition `59 LP Special in cherry. Bill offered him $150 trade in. He took it. This was around 1974-75, so street value may have been around $1000-$1500, I'm guessing. Bill kept the guitar, but was a Strat guy all the way. I got to play it when I visited him that year. I was a broke 20 year old at the time. Otherwise, that baby would have come home with me. I'm sure he didn't hold on to it long, as he didn't like Gibson necks. Bill asked the farmer why he never played the guitar. The farmer said, "I didn't like the way it sat on my leg when I sat down with it." Sounds like another urban legion, but it's true. I got to play it.
