Shave down neck

I have a Hamer Mirage maple top w/ the 2 humbuckers on it. I love the guitar, but I'm not crazy about the neck profile...this guitar has what I would call a wide/fat profile....pretty beefy neck. On the newer Hamers, I think you can order different neck profiles, but not on mine, which has long been out of production....only made for several years I think. Was thinking about having someone shave off approx. 2mm from the back of the neck, but don't want to run into any truss rod issues, or something worse. Anyone ever done this, or should I leave well enuff alone? I also heard that not all Hamer necks are made the same, so in other words, the mirage neck might be made differently than a standard, for instance?? I'm not sure how to go about getting the exact specs for this neck. any words of wisdom?

Wow! Tell him I'm a big fan. Well, I was during my troubled years.

Edited to add: I just read the Wiki on the band. I had no idea they went through all that crazy legal battle stuff. He must be doing well, though, to live in your big baller neighborhood. :)

No way, dude! He lives in a regular guy neighborhood in a modest house. Just like us. He is unassuming, friendly and quiet. He has a shitload of kids .. more than me! His oldest son, Oliver, and my twin boys were schoolmates all the way through elementry. Once middle school hit we kind of lost touch. A very nice family.

When I carved necks and someone wanted a super thin profile I would periodically put a magnet on the back of the neck and see if it sticks. If it sticks you are close to carving into the truss rod.

The Mirage neck is built differently than a Studio, Standard, etc (different headstock angle, different truss rod nut access cavity, volute, etc).

I would not do anything until you talk to an expert.

I read something from either Tom Anderson or Jim Tyler regarding this very subject and his opinion was that things can shift on necks sometimes when you shave them.

It changes stress points or something and can permanently damage the neck.
