specialk Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 He didn't have any pics, and not much of a description:"1980 model Hamer flying V hard shell case red with gold hardware two double humbuckers$500 "Assuming it's in fair shape, is this a good deal?
bubs_42 Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Well, if its an 80 or 80's? Anyway pretty good if its in good shape. If its has a good neck on it, it sounds like a solid guitar. Good luck.
cmatthes Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Either way, it is has VERY strong potential to be a good deal.
Pieman Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 This Vector went from $1100 (no bids), then to $1200 (no bids) and then down to $1050 (still nothing).I think one like this brought $1000 on the HFC board in the Fall and a red one went for $800. $500 seems low.Too bad there are no photos.81 vector
specialk Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 Thanks for all the info/help, guys. I picked up a nice ding in my windshield today so I have to get that fixed tomorrow morning. If he still has it tomorrow afternoon I'm gonna go have a look. I kinda think those early Hamer's had thin necks. I hope not on this one.
DaveL Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 As long as its within a reasonable drive, I think ya gotta check itout. Craig's list is like the wild west, but you can get some great dealsthat may not be available on ebay or the gear page etc. Talk to the guy on the phone first and meet in a public location.
esquared Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 If you do go see it, maybe take some pics for the rest of us. If you are not interested then maybe someone else will be?Thanks
specialk Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 If you do go see it, maybe take some pics for the rest of us. If you are not interested then maybe someone else will be?ThanksThanks, esquared. I was going to do exactly that. I talked to him on the phone. I didn't get too specific as I didn't want him to know how interested I was. I don't think he's the original owner. He did say the back was scratched up, but that it sounded good. He's raising money for a down payment on a house, so he has a lot of stuff for sale, but this is the only Hamer.
esquared Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Cool.Sorry, I guess I didn't need to state the obvious to a veteran HFCer.
bubs_42 Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Cool. Sorry, I guess I didn't need to state the obvious to a veteran HFCer. Thats ok, why do you think we call him Special K?
BadgerDave Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 "1980 model Hamer flying V hard shell case red with gold hardware two double humbuckers$500 " Assuming it's in fair shape, is this a good deal? Gold hardware? That would mean a gold sustainblock bridge. If it's in good condition, the bridge alone would be worth around $300.

GaryT Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I wuld get over to check it out, then maybe put a hold on it with a couple bucks? May be a decent shaped neck though I hear what your saying about thin necks.
specialk Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 Not yet. I'm going to call him to set up something Friday. It's not really local, but about a half hour from my work, and I've had to pull a couple of over-nighters lately. But I will see it if it's still there. I'll let ya know.
specialk Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 I won't be going over to see this one. I just talked to the seller on the phone. He said he's been getting a LOT of calls on it, so he did some research on the web (he even found this web site). He's thinking about putting it up on ebay to see what he can get for it.It has a really skinny neck and no gold hardware. He says no cracks or breaks. He would ship it if someone wanted to buy it, but I don't know what price he might ask. Looks like the $500 is no more. If anyone is interested, I can give you his phone number.
