Sentinel Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 How do I emulate a crunchy/od/dist. P90 lead sound from my Hamer's? (Can't afford buying any new gear right now...)My guitars (all with SD-pu's) are:MonacoElite - CustomCustom (br) / Custom (n)StudioCustom - 59 / JazzArtistCustom - S Lover / S LoverAlso a Fender Am Standard Strat with regular singlecoils.Amp - Fender Cyber DeluxePedals: - MXR Classic 108 Fuzz - Dunlop Cry Baby wah
gorch Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Do you have any chance to split PUs? That would probably give it a chance.
Sentinel Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 I was more thinking in the lines of simply choosing one of the guitars, tweaking the amp settings, select effect pedal and adjusting the tone knob on the guitar...?! :-)
burningyen Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Most likely candidate is the Strat. Crank the mids on your CyberDeluxe and turn down the tone knob on your Strat.
Sentinel Posted January 31, 2010 Author Posted January 31, 2010 Most likely candidate is the Strat. Crank the mids on your CyberDeluxe and turn down the tone knob on your Strat. That wasn't bad at all. Sounds quite good... even great with some tweakin'!Thanks!
burningyen Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Cool, glad to help. I had to come up with a way to play Pink Floyd's Another Brick In The Wall Part 2 live, and that's how I solved that problem.
marantz1300 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 You could fit humbucker size P90's to one of your guitars. I have Seymour duncan Phat Cats,Bare Knuckles Mississippi Queens are great pups too. Job done.
GaryT Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Yup and for SMALL $$$ the GFS Dream 90s sound pretty damn good. Definatly one of the better pick-up made from GFS.
Armitage Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Larry DiMarzio claims the Super Distortion was his attempt at making a humbucker sound like Leslie Wests screaming P90 tone.
Sentinel Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 Larry DiMarzio claims the Super Distortion was his attempt at making a humbucker sound like Leslie Wests screaming P90 tone.Cool...!
belgian Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Phat cats can be found for a reasonable price, so I guess I would swap the pickups on the Studio.
HamerHokie Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I wouldn't use Phat Cats if you want a hot sound. In my experience, the Custom Custom comes the closest to sounding P-90ish due to its fat mids.
