Now that I'm looking at perhaps the second setneck cali I've ever seen I have a question for those in the know. Does the end of the fretboard float above the body like the bolt on versions?

Hi Jason,

The angled end of the fretboard sits about 10mm above the body, level with the pickups.

Wow! A setneck Cali in my favorite color....mine was BO-RING white but still a great axe. Pretty rare. I think I've seen less than 10 in as many years.

Hey Mc2,

Awesome guitars hey! Wish i had've known about these years ago. All i knew was Vernon Reid played some custom Hamers, one of which i saw for sale for $40,000 back in '94 or so, and i figured we'd never see the decent ones down here in Australia.

They've got a few cool cali's in the land down under. I still wish I could have snagged the lefty quilt top cali that came up for sale in Australia a while back. That guitar still gives me nightmares.

Oh man that would've been so nice. I'm torn between keeping mine as it is for the unique factor & swapping in coloured passive pups, or having it returned to it's original glory. :)

I have no idea, there's no obvious clues to be seen, although i haven't taken the backplate off as yet, might be a clue in there.

Hello again all,

Hope you're all well & rocking out on all those fine Hamers.

The reason i dredge this old post up is because i'm thinking about selling my much beloved, yet rarely played or even seen, Californian, pictured right here at the top of this post.

All the pics are here but i'm sure i could take some more if the interest warrants it.

Anyway, throw some offers at me and i might just be persuaded to get serious about selling it.

Cheers & All the best.

TC Down Under.

If you're serious about selling it I'd post it in the for sale section with the title "set neck cali" or something to get peoples attention. There are plenty of people on this board interested in that particular guitar that might miss it under this thread.

Hey guys,

This is my 1990 Californian Custom. I'm thinking about selling this beautiful guitar, however

i will try my best to keep it. So i'm after some ballpark offers to put the feelers out there.

I would think that most of you know all about the custom, but if you have any questions i'll do my

best to answer them in detail.

A brief rundown of my thoughts on it:

It is in near perfect condition, only visible wear and tear is shown on the fine tuners of the trem unit. (Schaller)

There is a tiny chip in the finish on the edge below the selector switch.

The finish is not factory, and there is a small mistake where the painter has painted over part or the 'R' on the headstock. However it is an otherwise great finish and the colour brings out all the nuances in the bodywork.

The neck is a real pleasure to play on, and is actually of a better quality than any of my other guitars (ibanez RG's, Gibbo LP Studio, ESP horizon). And it SUSTAINS. Very noticable sustain over the other guitars i play regularly.

The Trem is a Schaller LFR system. Bar none THE best one i've ever used. ever. Heavy whammy usage is just not a problem at all. I used to cringe everytime a had to use a whammy because i knew i'd be fiddling with the fine tuners for the rest of the song i was playing. But this thing gives you that piece of mind, knowing that you can wank it around, bomb it, pull it, and your intonation will stay near perfect pitch.

Pickups are obviously EMG's - an 81 in the bridge and the single coil i'm not sure about, but it's the best sounding out of the two. I've got 81's & 85's in other guitars and know the sound, but the single coil in this guitar has a great sound of its own. Very sexy.

3 way selector swtich, smooth noiseless operation. Volume pot also noiseless.

The general feel of it is great, the body seems to be sized down a bit, which for me is perfect as i'm not a fan of guitars being bigger than me or have bodies that are just too wide etc.

The craftsmanship is really something to admire. You can just tell it was made with 100% love for the craft.

Thats about it... I love this guitar and will try to hold onto it, but if an offer grabs my attention i may be persuaded to get serious about selling.

I can take more photo's if the interest warrants it. Here's the pics i currently have:

ok i'm either doing something wrong with the photo attachments or it's not working. So if you want to see the guitar in the meantime, i have another post on the main message board. Just search my name and you'll find it.

Cheers

Thanks Jason, I've just done that although i'd forgotten how to work the photo upload. Tried a few times but no luck, so i told any readers to search my name & they'll find this post.

$350 ;)

I don't think auction style listings are allowed on this board. You should consider putting a price or removing this and putting it on an auction site.

See the first rule in the posting guidelines pinned at the top.

Just listed on Ebay. Will give preference to local guitar dealers but will ship for the right price.

Cool guitar-you might want to check your earlier thread-there's some useful pre-recession value info on there.
