Who here knows about those old Dimarzio singles Hamer used?

They were fairly thin as far as the winding goes, but then had really tall legs to mount it. No covers were used - just tape wrapped around it like on a humbucker. Non-staggered - flush - pole pieces. It's a weird looking PU with the pole pieces sticking out of the bottom quite a ways!

How did they compare to other PU's used like the SD AL II's or SSL-1's? ... especially in regards to the high end?

I couldn't even find a pick of one on the net.

Anyone?

standard humbucker bobbins converted to single coil pups. the bezel is, was made to attach, mount, install in a guitar. Kinda like a humbucker bezel, only for on coil. Used alot on phantoms. I like them, great tones. I have a couple loose ones. To my ears, I think they are a great modern tone for a single coil, where alot of other manufacturers focus on reproducing a classic single coil tone and look. I like the stock single coils in my phantom.

They sound good, and yes - "modern" would probably be a good way to describe them.

The one I have now in the neck is brighter than an SSL1 neck, tighter sounding too. Good or bad depends on what you are after. I like it in the SSII, I don't think I would like it in the T62, (where I have Antiquities now). They are very good singlecoils, not just an average strat type of pup.

Thanks for the replies. When you say you have a couple of loose ones around does that mean that you could sell me one?

I'll look around - I know I HAD one. I was trying to find a cream one.

I actually did get rid of two of them since that post - one was a quick sale, one was a PIF!

Based on those specs I think it could be woman I dated in college. Stephanie Grongkowski. It was the really tall legs for easy mounting and flush pole pieces that kept me comin' back for more.

Otherwise, beer goggles required. THICK beer goggles.
