SteveB Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Cowboy Troyhttp://www.cowboytroy.com"Old School style" ( ie, pre Gangsta ) Rap with Country-Rock background. I kinda like some of it. It will be interesting to see how this stuff goes over with the country crowd.Cowboy Troy is part of the "Big & Rich" posse, first showed up in the Big & Rich song "Rollin, the ballad of Big & Rich". Big & Rich is the first country act in a long time I am even remotely interested in listening too, just because they are more "Country Rock" sort like old school Charlie Daniels, and because they are a bit twisted.FYI Big and Rich.... "Save a horse, Ride a cowboy".... http://www.bigandrich.com/video/video_popU...d=300&videoId=7
pesocaster Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 I've been WAY into country the last year or so..... I like 1 or 2 B&R songs... but the Hick-Hop.... No Thanks!... Want to hear some great songcraft and KILLER playine... go pick up Keith Urban "Be Here" or "Golden Road"... Or Hot Apple Pie's only album... Kinda funny... I hear more rock and roll in country music these days.. than modern "rock"..... There is pleanty of crap to filer through.. but there is some great "rocking" country being made right now....
DavidE Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Brad Paisley is one hell of a picker and his songs are mighty humerous...
MCChris Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Or Hot Apple Pie's only album... I've been wanting to pull the trigger on that one for a while based on their video for "Hillbillies." You can tell they're rockers at heart, and the rump shakin' ain't too bad, either (not by the guys in the band LOL)! Do you have their album? How's the rest of it?Someone here tipped me off to Cross Canadian Ragweed and their self-titled release is excellent.I've been watching a lot of VH1 Country lately. That's where the real guitar playin' is, but then, hasn't that always been the case?

I just picked up the CD on Saturday.... 2 listens so far.... there are a couple tracks where the playing is nothing short of incredible...... it is a "Country" album ... tons of ear candy... Hillbillies is the only track like it on the disk.... and that's not a bad thing.... Lots of great songs.... I've herd some Cross Canadian Ragweed... it was ok.... for some reason it reminded me too much of Creed .... maybe it's the vocals.... And yea... VH-1 country is on often in the Peso house... like I said there is a lot of crap to weed through ... but when you find a gem ... it's a good one... Brad Paisly too... Killer killer killer!!!And the new Dwight Yolkam is very Rockabilly ... great stuff...

Perhaps you're simply hearing the first two and last three letters of the band's name LOL!Yoakam's new video is hilarious! The "spoken word" part at the end reminds me of the scene in "Sling Blade" where he throws everyone out of the house.
hamerican gigolo Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 "Ride that Chicken on the Train" What a piece of garbage. They should rename the tune "Ride Cowboy Troyout of town on a Rail".
Kurt L Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 "Ride that Chicken on the Train" Actually, it's "I Play Chicken With The Train." And I'm rootin' for the train on that one.Hick-hop? Rap mixed with commercial country-pop?My opinion - when you mix two types of crap, it's still crap.
savethematches Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 If you like Keith Urban's guitar work, dig back and find the release with his band The Ranch prior to his solo work. Absolutely killer album! He's a friggin' monster, but Nashville is only interested in making him the next heartthrob. Also, check out Shooter Jennings' disc, Let's Put the O back in Country. He's a modern day outlaw, fer sure.
Stike Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Kills me how Dwight's new album is "too country" to get on country radio.
hardheartedbill Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 I really like the intro riff, sort of a Henderix meet Scott Henderson Dog Party thing, then theres the rest of it, oh well, cool intro riff
wyldbil Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 BR549.Junior Brown.Rap in ANY form? No thank you.And that is all I have to say...
gwayne Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 I've herd some Cross Canadian Ragweed... it was ok.... for some reason it reminded me too much of Creed .... maybe it's the vocals.... Hey Peso, Check out Ragweed's CD "Live and Loud at Billy Bob's". No Creed in sight, just good honest country rock. Cross Canadian Ragweed describes there sound like this: "Smells Like Country, Tastes Like Rock 'n' Roll".
Submariner85 Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Cowboy Troy is a Gimmick.......don't worry, he won't be around long.
frank_c Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 and what's with Big & Rich havin' the little guy onstage? who the hell wants to look at that?
pesocaster Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 and what's with Big & Rich havin' the little guy onstage? who the hell wants to look at that? Kid Rock?
Hackubus Posted August 30, 2005 Posted August 30, 2005 Ragweed & this Red Dirt thing is really popular around my neck of the woods. Still, I detest that band with every inch of my fiber. Every single time I go out to the neighborhood bar, the Stillwater/OSU rejects fire up the jukebox & play several Ragweed tunes. At a few bars we play at, during breaks between sets, never fails, some fool plays Cross Canadian Ragweed. Not hip hop, not country, not some dancy shit, Ragweed. They try to play damn near the entire album. I can only handle about five minutes of that before I try to get the guys rounded up & get their butts back on stage. To me, it's like shoegazer grunge country & the appeal is totally lost on me. Maybe I'm turning into my dad or something. oh God, help me.
billhart22 Posted August 31, 2005 Posted August 31, 2005 Cowboy Troy is a threat to all Americans!! If country critics pick it up, it will extend RAP and hip-hop for another 10 years at least. (Excuse me....I am spewing...or is it hurling??) Whatever, I have to clean it off of my clothes....Bill
