jxxwoo Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Hi guys, new member here. Came upon this from my search for the ultimate P90 guitar. i've actually been itching for a gibson special double cut w/ p90s but someone pointed me in the directions of a hamer. problem is, no where to play them here!I actually saw one that a guy bought recently, it was a korina body special w/ DUAL p90s. That thing was beautiful...I really would like it w/ dual p90s but i know hamer doesn't make them like that.I guess what i'm getting at is compared to the gibsons, how do hamers play and sound? I could actually get the Gibson for a couple hundred less New...but i would have to buy both sight unseen =(Anyway, look forward to learning lots from you folks. Late!
hamertek98 Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Welcome! Get a Hamer! There's plenty out there with 2-90's. Others will be chimin' in later.
BTMN Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Spend the extra. You will not look back. BTW, welcome.
jxxwoo Posted September 3, 2005 Author Posted September 3, 2005 Went to sam ash today and asked a guitar guy "hey, what guitars do you guys have in p90s?" Maybe i should of said "with" instead of "in."response "oh, i don't think we carry any in that color."doh!
belgian Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Welcome !!!!You'll find out coming to this board, is going from guitar highschool to Hamer University... (it's expensive too)
m chops Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 I don't know that I can really answer your question for you, in comparing gibsons to Hamers. Many on this board wil tell you that they are at least equal to, and many more will say superior to, gibsons. But then again, this is a pretty partisan crowd. Purportedly fit, finish, and construction on an USA Hamer is superior. I had an ES-335 and an import Echotone. My ears told me the Echotone sounded better. My ego told me the 335 was better. Listen to your ears. I've got a Korina Jr. - the one with a single P-90. It is surprisingly versatile for a single p/u guitar. But I do like a neck p/u. If I didn't have 8 years of college tuition to pay for , I'd be looking for a Korina Artist with P-90s. And I know there P-90 specials out there with 2 p/u, though most are mahogany, not korina.
Guitarseh Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 There is always the custom order route, if you can't find a double P-90 one used. Several dealers here on the board could help out. It will cost more than an off the rack Gibson, but the fit and finish will definitely be better. Gibson's non-Custom Shop QC is generally not as good, IMHO, so buying sight unseen, I'd have more confidence in the Hamer. By going the custom route, you can also specify neck carves, etc., so you can get closer to your dream guitar. Welcome and good luck either way!MarkB

anotherfreak2 Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 http://cgi.ebay.com/HAMER-SPECIAL-KORINA-M...1QQcmdZViewItem that has so many caps it gave me a head-ache, and I sure would like to have one of those!
David B Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 To me, nothing sounds or feels better than my single P-90 Korina Special. They do make these with 2 P-90s now.
jxxwoo Posted September 4, 2005 Author Posted September 4, 2005 do they really? dave B? The one PU config. is the one thing holding me back. i really want that neck PU.What kind of neck carve does the stock ones have?
BTMN Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 Look what you made me finally do. http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4719 It isn't a Special but I bet it will cook.
jxxwoo Posted September 4, 2005 Author Posted September 4, 2005 awsome! Hey, not my fault if you got uncontrollable gas.
David B Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 http://willcuttguitars.com/brand.asp?brand...brand&submit=Goscroll down & look at the special here, it has two P-90s. There are also the early 90s specials that are easy to find at a good price.
biffrythm Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 I've got a 92 cherry finish special. I'd do $500 shipped in the us. I can email pics if your interested.
Guest slim Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Cant get better than a P-90 Kornina Artist. They even make em with 3 P90s if you're feeling really wild! I've got a 00 with dual P90s. Increadible sounding, looks great, awesome to play and light as a feather. Anyone I've let play it is usually blown away.
hamertek98 Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Gene's got gas?!? Let me know about that "other" guit you have for sell.
MCChris Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I'm open to moving this one along to someone who appreciates P90s more than I do:
serial Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 The one that McChris has looks like it would fit the bill perfectly for ya. AND, he's a good guy to boot.Korina is kool...
MCChris Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 The one that McChris has looks like it would fit the bill perfectly for ya. AND, he's a good guy to boot. OK let's not LIE to the man ...The one on the Willcutt's site looks like it's just an image they're using to illustrate the category. Doesn't look like they have one with P90s available, although they do have a humbucker version.
shadco Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I'm open to moving this one along to someone who appreciates P90s more than I do: Now you say something. Where were you 2 weeks ago? ;-)
MCChris Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Where were you 2 weeks ago? ;-) Probably somewhere being wishy washy.
