Man how I wanted one of these when I was a kid! $1,299 is more reasonable than I thought it would be.

Edited to add: 24-3/4" scale hog neck [rather than 25-1/2" maple neck] - Burstbucker Pros... gee, I might like the reissue better than an original.

That's not too far off from where they sold for new back then.

huh, never realized they used to be 25.5", atypical for gibson.

They all had maple bodies and necks, the basses too. But they also came in 24.75" scale from 1979 on (with 25.5" scale as option). I still like the original version better. This looks to me like the "economy version" of the RD. Not interesting to me (I have an original RD Artist and an RD Artist Bass anyway). The original RD had some new concepts (all-maple construction, maple fretboard on the Custom and Bass models, 25.5" scale, active electronics) that made them different from other Gibson solidbodies then. Nowadays it is your typical Gibson with an RD body shape.

I bought one of the Silverburst reissues when they came out a few years ago. I was dissapointed with the build quality and ended up selling it. I've been a 25.5 scale weirdo ever since I started playing a SuperPro, so that had something to do with it as well. Nice call out though, thanks!

They're a little funny looking, though not offensively so. I can't help thinking that the headstock looks out of place, but I can't picture anything else like an Explorer-style looking any better.

Totally agree. I played a SB one and it was a lame duck. I wish the lower cutaway was a bit deeper on these too but thats another deal altogether.

If anyone sees any 25.5 RD's (especially w/o the Moog board) in the 500-700 range please flag me down. Probably a dream, but you never know!
