Gibson experts, I got a trade offer, Help

As you may know I'm trying to sell my 2005 SG standard, well I got a trade offer for a 2011 Gibson RD re-issue, it's black, but here's the possible deal breaker for me, it comes with a gig bag. I still need an amp, and even if I like this RD and keep it, my band plays a lot of out of town gigs and where the hell would I find an affordable RD case?

If you think he has the case and is just holding out, you might want to just state what you have here - no case is a potential deal-breaker and see how bad he wants your SG. If the values are askew with the case factored in, maybe some $$$ will have to be included but I can't imagine it would be much (I have no real clue about comparative values on these items).

RD's are BA BTW.

I don't think the RD will bring you much the SG doesn't already give you, unless you think you can flip it for more cash towards an amp, which is doubtful.

The RD is one of those love-it-or-hate-it models.

I'd be concerned about flipping it down the road, which might prove harder to do than your SG.

FWIW, I agree with this additional qualification:

The RD is definitely one of those love it or hate it models (I happen to have been in absolute love with them since I first saw one hanging in Cecil's Bandstand back in the '70's), BUT the reissue has some strikes against it that cause even the RD purists to sneer, most notably the shorter (than original) 24-3/4" scale length - the original was 25-1/2 like a Strat. I think your SG is a much more marketable guitar (notice I didn't say which was better - a matter of opinion). Just my two cents, I'm no expert, YMMV, etc.

Thanks guys, I thought as much, I do like oddball shaped guitars though, but the lack of a hardshell case is an absolute deal breaker for me. Gig bags suck.

I like the SG a lot. Best SG I've ever owned, the only SG that I've played that felt better in my hands was a 61 re-issue, I really like the slim neck on those. But I really need a new amp, or a used new amp. I've got a one in one out gear policy with my wife.

The RD reissues kind of fell flat when they came out a few years ago. They were getting blown out at the GC near me for $799 for Black, and $899 for Silverburst. Those came with gigbags, not hardshells, from what I recall.

Is that an age thing? It seems the older I get, the more I'm drawn to Standards, Firebirds, the BillyBo(!) ~ anything not LP/Jr/Strat-shaped. Never considered the RD, though. Hmmmmmm..............

Damn it - got in too late...

2 quotes came to mind - one from my Dad - "they were shit then, and they're shit now" (use'd for any band/guitar/amp/<insert anything>), and one from a biz associate who deals with IT equipment brokerage when warding off a potentially trade that might be difficult to find another buyer for "oooh, you don't want to be stuck with one of those up the crack in your arse."

Looks like alls well that ends well :-D
