Jem Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260961430345I don't want it so i might as well post it here to bump the price up !
RichRS6 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 He has posted the S/N 9 1436.Is this correct for a 79 ?
Jem Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 He has posted the S/N 9 1436.Is this correct for a 79 ?No, i thought i'd email him to say it was a '79 as a joke !
kizanski Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 So what year is it then ?My guess is it's a '79 and the serial number is actually 9 0436.
cynic Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 '79 serials made it into the 1400s.9 1436 sounds feasible for a November/December build
RichRS6 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I guess they really started mass producing them around this period then.
Jem Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 It's the 1436'th 'production' guitar and yes, i think they were making their own bodies by then, but i could be wrong (Andrew or Steve could confirm) so i suppose you could call it 'mass' production, although i wouldn't be suprised if Fullerton made that a week, if not a day back then. And sorry, i think my sacasim went a bit high but '79 production (my Special's from mid '80 and serial 1830'ish) and now the seller knows, could be a fun one to watch.
Andrew Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 About a 1000 a year at Palatine, that's just 20 per week. Mass production? I don't think so. I am not sure about whether woodworking was entirely in-house by the end of 79 but I would think it quite likely. The similarity is due to the thinness of the maple - consecutive slices off the wood and then finishing in the same batch.
RichRS6 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 My 78 was on U.K. ebay for weeks with no interest before I grabbed it, (this is 18 Months ago though).
Jem Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 My 78 was on U.K. ebay for weeks with no interest before I grabbed it, (this is 18 Months ago though).Yes, we saw it. Trouble is Hamer really haven't made any real impact over here for years apart from the import line. Andrew and i have both been collecting for well over twenty years: (we've known each other since around '89 and live over 100 miles apart, such has been the relatively small following over here) that the fact is there's a limit to just how many you can keep and i think we're both pretty well there and you can't collect them all........although LoLAnyway, such is the fun of the fair, we've all had good buys when they come up and alternatively we've seen stuff go to prices that it almost makes you reach for the camera and start listing stuff.
tommyh Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Dammit, Dammit, Dammit. I saw it last night and thought it looked earleir than a '85. I was keeping quiet but now it's already got 10 questions (including from Germany & USA) and been posted on HFC so everyone will be interested. Oh well, there goes my chance of a quiet bargain - I might just put in a bid anyway but as a '79 I think it's just 'too' nice so it will go for something higher. Cheers, T.

Cheers, T.As far as i know they didn't make them even to order in '85 (normal Hamer caveats apply) but i recognise two of the people who had questions posted so people are aware (and they aren't on here either)
RichRS6 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Well (hopefully) the U.S. contingent are unlikely to be too interested they're (as usual with U.S. made instruments) far easier to find (and much cheaper) on the other side of the pond. You Lucky, Lucky, Bastards.
psc3251 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Hey tommyh,You and me both......Was keeping quiet hoping it had slipped below everyone's radar!! I sold my PRS too, so have some funds- bang goes getting it for a steal...too many questions already....wish he was keeping it to a Uk auction only as we don't get these much over in the uk- and I'll only go for a bound and crowned Sunburst!Oh well, just have to keep saving to afford a cali.......CheersDave
RichRS6 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 What gives? There are loads of questions from guys in the U.S. Surely the price will end up too high. (I know, I know, don't call me surely!)Can't believe anyone from the U.S. would be prepared to pay $2000.00 (I'd be surprised if it goes for less than £1200.00) plus post for this considering the black beauty Brent picked up from C.L. for a lot less.
Andrew Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 O for the good ol' days of £200 and £300 Sunbursts!
RichRS6 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Well I got a reply from the seller regarding the Serial Number, heres the pic he sent.
Jem Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 Why do people ask for the serial number after the seller's actually given it in the listing, i can never fathom that, same as people who obscure it in a listing - WTF ?O for the good ol' days of £200 and £300 Sunbursts! It's become the £350 LED Blitz bass LoL !
RichRS6 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I just wanted to make sure he had read it correctly, the first digit looks a bit crooked but I guess thats to be expected on hand made guitars. The reason people obscure S/N in Ads on ebay is to stop scammers ripping the ad off.
psc3251 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Jesus.... Over 5 days to go on a 7 day listing and it's nearly at £1k already! What's going on? I'll be amazed if we don't see every 70's Sunburst in the UK go up for sale on Ebay if this is the bidding war that developes....times are tight and it's a good earner if it keeps rising...... (Maybe I'm just p****d cause it ain't as cheap as I'd hoped !! ) Was gonna bid but it's begining to reach the top of my price range..... Hey Rich...you bidding?? Cheers Dave
