Turdus Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Is this the amp that had the over heating problems? If so, was anybody aware if Marshall addressed/corrected the issue? One is for sale locally, cheap, but I don't want to buy a problematic amp.Thanks.
murkat Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 avoid it.do not do it.Most un reliable Marshall ever made.Very poor design. They never fixed it, just moved on, waiting for the warranty expires on them.
FrankieIII Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Are you sure it's not the JTM 30 & 60 you're referring to? I know they had heat issues.
Turdus Posted May 22, 2012 Author Posted May 22, 2012 Frank,I seem to recall the JTM issues as being transformer related. The DSL was a heat issue that cracks a board, or something like that. Wanted to see if anybody recalled this... Jay seems to have chimed in.
murkat Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 power tubes > cheap board> deteriates very fast due to heat.I remember working at a shop, a Marshall dealer.Amp was a nighmare and the Korg/ Marshall rep had his handsfulwith that amp. Everyone sold (401) came back fried.
cmatthes Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Ask Elduave... I think that was the one he used at JAXX about 8 years ago, and it wasn't pretty.
Stike Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Sounds like the 20 watt one space power amp they used to make.
elduave Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Ask Elduave... I think that was the one he used at JAXX about 8 years ago, and it wasn't pretty. I played DSL for a bit but ended up going TSL and went through a few. I don't think I ever had the overheating issue per se but issues where had. I still have NO clue what happened at that Jaxx show. Pissed me right off though!
tbonesullivan Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I have heard bad things about overheating and the versions of hte DSL using EL84 power tubes. My tech was talking about them when I brought in my TSL122 for some servicing. That just needed some components replaced and now it's golden.
Jeff R Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I had one of these briefly many moons ago. Cajun Boy and I are prone to pull the chassis when we get new amps for exploratory peeks under the hood. I seem to recall him laughing out loud at some of the stuff he saw inside that little Marshall, as in what he saw as problems just waiting to occur. The amp's sound for my ears didn't justify the potential PIAs, and so it was soon out the door.
sirDaniel Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 man, pyro show. thanks for the headsup. there are 2 $300 combos at the local mom and pop. This pic quelches the temptation.
