a.bandini Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Awesome! They'll remember it for years and years. Well done!
Bobby Marshall Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 The world needs more people like you Gene. No, not crazy guitar fanatics. Too many of those.Kind hearted people who take time to give back to the community.
BTMN Posted July 25, 2012 Author Posted July 25, 2012 Thanks guys! The smiles I see in the shots are all the thanks I need. Instead of praising me, go do a small thing yourself, and get some of that goodness too. I scared the mess out of some guy on Sunday being nice. He didn't know how to react.
Steve Haynie Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 Do any of those kids get a regular music instruction in their school?
mathman Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 I can'tspeak for those kids but unfortunately in florida, due to budget cuts, many of the music programs are being cut or scaled back. And state law requires kids who score low on the fcat test have to take extra reading classes rather than elective classes such as art, music or pe.
BTMN Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 I know 3 of them get 40 minutes a week of a music class and that teacher does a great job for the limited time. They sing, play hand instruments in her time. That school has a chourus for 3rd - 5th during school time, plus a strings program and drumming program that are after/before school for 3rd - 5th. These kids all go to dofferant schools and then were together for 6 weeks of Summer school. I bet the others have something too The district we live in requires 30 minutes a day of PE and they get 40 minutes of Art a week also.
Bobby Marshall Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Our elementary k-4 has a music class but no choral/band string programs. The intermediate 5-6th grade has band as an elective where you have a daily class with a all group :and once a week before school the entire band meets. My son is starting this fall on the trombone. Could be a good instrument for developing an ear.
