Last resort for cleaning a guitar case

I found a used thermoplastic (molded plastic) generic guitar case for a acoustic guitar recently, at one of my local thrift shops. No guitar came with, it was just the case, and I got it for practically nothing. There was a reason that it was dirt cheap, apparently the last guy to use the case for a guitar smoked like a house on fire, and in order to kill THAT smell, he doused the inside with cheap cologne, so now it smells like BOTH. The thrift store was up front about it, and it didn't seem that bad (plus, I like a challenge), but the smell made itself much more obvious when I got it home. Now, the case lives in my storage unit, unused.

I tried the Ozite route that's been mentioned in similar strings here on the HFC, but it didn't seem to make a dent in the smell. Since I'll lose very little if I screw up the case, I was thinking about taking it to the car wash for a good soap and rinse. Water won't hurt the exterior of the case, the interior is black flocking material, and I'm not sure what the lining is attached to, styrofoam maybe? Anybody tried this? Any other suggestions? I think the case is WAY beyond spraying anything on it like Ozite or Febreze, what it needs is a bath! TIA! :)

Cool! Thanks very much, Jay! I will let you know how well it works, I'll give it a shot sometime this week! :)
