WTB: Used USA Hamer...

Hi all,

I'm looking for a Special, Artist, or possibly a T-62 to compliment a wraptail Studio. I would probably probably take a superstrat, duo tone, standard, or vector, but I doubt I'd find one in the same price range.

I landed an 80's Special, so I'm now looking for a P90 Special, P90 Artist, or a T-62 in (almost) any condition.

- A little beat up is preferred, as I'd love to save a few extra dollars.
- A lot beat up is fine too, as saving more means more Hamers
- I'd consider something that needs a structural repair
- Bad or missing hardware is ok
- Bad electronics are no problem
- I'm not all that picky about colors - translucent, solid, sparkle, graphic, whatever...
- I can probably tolerate just about any neck profile they've made
- I can do with or without case

So if you've got something that might fit the bill, lemme know!

I've got a '79 Sunburst that another member is considering, would you be interested if he decdes against it?

It's something that I bought with the intention of restoring, but it starts right up and runs as it is.

I have a couple of Diablos available....

I also have a rather beat-up Diablo that I'd let-go for cheap as well. Natural finish, some dents/dings, autographed by Mark Durante of KMFDM...new pot and all hardware present. Can offer pics if interested.

The list of downgrades confuses me. Wouldn't the Appreciation Threads fulfill your desires?

You'd save a ton of extra dollars after all. B)

When I bought my first Hamer, I put up a similar post... basically saying "the one you thought was unsellable? I might buy it" and I got a great deal on a guitar that was otherwise not getting posted. Since the FS section was pretty slow lately, and a lot of eBay sellers are asking a lot for what they've got, I figured I'd post a WTB to see what was waiting in the wings.

Maybe next time I'll try a shorter post: "WTB: USA Hamer, playable preferred, under $1000. Set necks preferred, but not required." :D

If all I wanted to do was look... yes. That and the upcoming book would be perfect. :D

For better AND for worse, no one but me keeps guitars at my place, so I do occasionally need to plunk down coin and own them if I want to play them. ;)

Aside from the T-62, I'd prefer a hardtail of some sort.

Saw this and thought of your post. First one on the list - Dinged up P-90 Special for $599 at a GC.

Just seach for "Hamer Special," and it should pop up first.

Thanks! I appreciate the consideration.

I called down there yesterday to confirm its a USA model with OSHC (it is), and to get the year. The guy at the shop wanted to talk about it so we did. He went over it in hand without my even asking. Said the neck was on the thin side (at least as thin as a 60s Gibson neck in his words) and has the volute. It's a 93 from the S/N. I've got no heartburn about the condition, but the price seems high based on what he described. At $400 or maybe even $499 I'd jump on it. Who knows... If tax time doesn't shake some Hamers loose from the grove, I may still. ;)

In the meantime, I noticed that the dot neck Studio P90 GT is back up on eBay... It bid to over $1100 last time. Still a bagain compred to the Studio GT P90 custom owned by Dweezl Zappa for $1950. I'd love a gold top and don't seem to care much for real Gibsons, so maybe it's time to spend a little extra for a non-beater. :)

That GT P-90 is soaring. I think it is beyond my interest, but I hope you snag it if you are still after it.

It's funny, I might have won it if I'd remembered to bid. :) I don't think I would have gone all the way to $1200, but I briefly considered a bid of $950. :D

any interest in a Mirage??

Not at this time. I've been much more into hardtails lately. Thanks though!

For what it's worth, my Mirage I feels rock solid with the trem' blocked. The 6-screw Wilkie and locking tuners didn't inspire my confidence (without any special set-up attention), so it's one of my 2 "hardtail" axes, functionally speaking. ;)
