Hamer of Air Guns?

Question

I have seen several you tubes expounding upon the merits of various 357, 45 and 510 AIR GUNS. These are extreme pellet guns folks. NO POWDER.

Many here have dabbled in a wide variety of amusements. I am hoping to get a "shootout" type response from guys who have used these devicess and and overall opinon as which would be your desert island piece if it was all you could have. Stopping of game in the range of 150-250 pounds is of obvious concern,

My personal requirements are high muzzle velocity, long flat trajectory, and delivery of lethal foot pounds at distance at and in excess fo 500 metres.

I do NOT trust the commercial sites. I DO trust my fellow HFCers.

Wow! th_sign0068.gif

I didn't know that such an animal existed. Just offhand, the combination of specs seems like it'd be just about unattainable without an external compressor.

No help here, just amazement. But, I bet it'd be fun as hell.

Thanks Kiz. I have been introduced to a dizzying array of powder-less beasts, some privately. I had always wondered what could be done with compressed air. Thanks for everyone's help.

What's a good plinking rifle? I' m being directed to Gamo by a friend. Targets and bird seed robbing squirrels my only vice.

For plinking and killing of anything up to raccoon in size, I have a Beeman in .22 and a RWS 350 Magnum .177. The RWS I have to be careful with because if using a too-lite pellet I crack the sound barrier, which not only screws up accuracy but makes neighbors turn their heads.

Both are perfectly suited for pest control and target shooting, and are dead-on-balls accurate, but neither come close to what the OP is looking for.

What would be the cheapest airgun (pellet I would guess, powered by C02) that would kill squirrels? I'm not fancy about this so even if it may be from wal-mart is fine with me.

Your best bet would be to do some research on how the velocity of the gun, the weight of the pellet, and the distance to target impact the delivered energy at range. The easy answer is any gun that can produce 3fpe at impact can kill a squirrel.

If you want to keep it cheap, look at a break-barrel .22 cal. You can find inexpensive Crosman models like this with a small scope for <$150.

I always get comments in regards to my air guns in the shop.

try to stay with USA made.

.25 cal. is wonderful, 22 is nice, 177 does not cut it.

I have my personal preferences, etc.

But, go to Airgun forum and get your ED on :)

a nice for sale section as well.

These cats know there air guns big time, like we know Hamers, guitars, etc.

Unfortunately when you are constrained to a maximum muzzle energy of 12ftlbs, as we aeon the UK ( more requres a section 1 Firearms Certificate) .25 has a borderline unusable velocity. As a rat buster at close range ie in farm buildings it's great, however over 20 yards the projectile drop is significant to the extent of practically impossible to use.

This side of the the pond it's .177 for precision, and .22 for most hunting applications.

I'm a fan of Weihrauch springers, and current have an extremely pretty early PCP rifle a Titan MC020k deluxe, which has sat in a case for 10 years. I went silly and added silly optics and laser, just for the fun of it. I'll find a picture.

If you are allowed more that 12 ftlbs - then I would suggest the above does not apply...
