ib2010 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I need a EXCELLENT tuner for my pedal board. Finer read the better, cleanest "thru" desired. Been a while since i've used one in chain. thanks, s
Bloozguy Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I have a Sonic Research Turbo Tuner. It is true strobe, true bypass, bright enough for outdoor gigs, and probably the most accurate at ±0.02 cents. I took it off my board because it was so sensitive it made it tough to tune quickly.I replaced it with a TC Electronic PolyTune. Also true bypass, bright enough for outdoors, and ±0.5 cent accuracy. Lets you strum all six strings for a quick check of your tuning. I got one of the mini versions as a gift and it’s great. No battery power for the mini version though.
dragan Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I like the pitchblack as well. I have two one on my pedal board one free . I had one exterior gig it was a little hard to read unless I stood over it in away that blocked the sun , but since I only do 1-2 daylight exterior gigs /year doesnt seem like a biggy . I think its ez to tune w/live & havent notice any dif in sound running through it or tuner out to it.I also use a lil pitch black clip on. I think they work fine, great for the money.... I still have my old conn strobo tuner on my work bench & old rack mount korg in an old rack of stuff .
Bobby Marshall Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I have a Sonic Research Turbo Tuner. It is true strobe, true bypass, bright enough for outdoor gigs, and probably the most accurate at ±0.02 cents. This is it. I also have a first version strobostomp but this thing is way better and you can see it! And for those that don't like to tune within .02 cents, just tune until the spin is very slow to the left.Afterall, it's only rock n' roll. ,)
ib2010 Posted July 12, 2013 Author Posted July 12, 2013 Thanks for the info, i went with the sonic research turbo. i'm not gigging and after getting em warmed up i don't mind spending a little time, to go fine. It seems i can hear a little tuning deviant far better than i can tune it back in. I've been spoiled by the tuner in my vetta 2, which really shows fine levels of string "behavior". thanks again, s

It took a while to get used to the Sonic's "touchy-ness", but now I can silent-tune quickly. The TC's "all-string" feature is really hip (and FAST), but the Sonic has tighter tolerances and, from my usage, the LED is brighter and easier to read.
Hamer Time Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Check out Petersons strobe stomp tuners.http://www.petersontuners.com/index.cfm?category=170
Bennyboy-UK Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Does this fall into the same category as intonation?
alantig Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 +1 on the Turbo. I don't have the stomp version - I have the other one - and it works great. Very quick response.I have the Polytune app on my iPod Touch, and it works really well. Great for playing around in my living room.
ib2010 Posted July 22, 2013 Author Posted July 22, 2013 TOTALLY pleased with the turbo. Turns out my suspicions of drift are QUICKLY verified by the turbo. Cool !!
