Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 kinda the same question as the trem post repair:How do you drill the holes straight and to the correct depth? And how do you ensure proper placement?
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 [edit] Ignore my post = I'm totally in the wrong town never mind ball park ffs lol
cynic Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Straightedge and masking tape. And the same drill press you locate to fix your trem postsQuestion: Is this a blank headstock with no existing holes, or are you replacing existing tuners with locking type?

velorush Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Works really great to source the locking variety of what's already in there. If it's the J.B. Player, I'm betting the sourced the parts from Schaller or someone. I'd start there and see if they have a locking equivalent. If there's nothing available, take a dial caliper and start measuring what you need and checking out what's available from Shaller, Tone Pros, Grover, etc. The StewMac web site has great diagrams with measurements for their tuning machines. Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted March 22, 2014 Author Posted March 22, 2014 Awesome! Didn't know that was so readily available. Will do.
Caddie Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Been there. Done that. Not done yet. As Jagger/Richards said "you can't always get what you want".At this late date it looks like AllParts may, MAY have what I need (TK 971-010), same 90deg anchoring tab. StewMac came up with a very nice solution, but (damn, everything has a but don't it?) for anchoring it has a long pin rather than the anchoring tab with a screw. Swapped a few more emails with them, and "we don't carry the model you want." So the screw hole from the old anchoring tab will be visible but that doesn't grind my gears too bad so I'm going to put them on. I'm going to return the one that had anchoring tabs at 135deg, and exchange for the 90deg. I'm optimistic I'll get what I want this time. Not done yet butt, i believe I'm closing in on it.caddieFWIW i'M trading email with Kluson to see how close their KL-3801C can come to filling my Schaller holes. That just sounds wrong, doesn't it? "filling my Schaller holes"?!
velorush Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 That just sounds wrong, doesn't it? "filling my Schaller holes"?! Wrong? Pfffft! What if you were a southerner? Down here "Schaller" is the opposite of deep! How wrong does that sound?
