John Hurtt Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Some help guys...too much? Not desireable? Need to figure out how to post pix?
hamerhead Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Hey JohnAnswers to your questions:1. Yes2. No3. YesYou have a desirable guitar, but you're well into Boomer territory price-wise. With no pics and being a new guy, well.....You'll need a Photobucket (or similar) account to post pics. Research the going rate for a dot-neck Cali, post up some good clear pics (we love shiny things), and see if the response isn't a little better.Good luck with the sale. The Cali is my favorite Floyd guitar.
serial Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Above is correct. Haven't seen a dot neck Cali get anywhere close to that number ever (new ones in 1994 didn't go for that) and I've been actively in the Hamer market for @20 years. Boomerangs with ebony are considerably more desirable to most, although all Calis are 'overbuilt' for their price point. Fantastic guitars and I hare Floyds.
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 It is very pristine, but yeah, the price is too high. Of course, I couldn't afford it right now even if the price was too low.
cynic Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Whatever the top dollar amount for a dot-necked opaque finish Cali is, this one should fetch it. Thats a badass guitar that in any normal world would easily be worth the $1600.
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Yes, the market value truly does not match its ownership value. But isn't that the attraction of Hamers in the first place? If there were a Cali standard worth $1600, this one would be it...unfortunately I think the lack of interest at this price shows that the market just won't support that price. But like I said, I couldn't even afford a too-low price right now, much less a fair one.
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I do feel a little drool forming every time I look at it. That's exactly what a guitar should look like and be: red, sleek, glossy, and ready for rockin'.
John Hurtt Posted April 2, 2014 Author Posted April 2, 2014 Guys...thanks very much for both the feedback and throwing the pics up there. I have a photobucket account...and I think I see the link to post pics. Thanks again! I'm looking forward to hanging around the forum and getting to know everyone...and if the guitar doesn't sell that's cool....I've had it since new. John
John Hurtt Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 Thanks again guys...it is a sweet guitar!
cwgatti Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 For the record, I owned a bunch of Hamer Chaparal/Cali/one offs. The best playing and sounding guitar I owned was an 87 Chap standard with a rosewood board and a floyd. I see a great value if you can look past the dated boomerang fretboard...
cwgatti Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I just bought a PRS Stripped 58 (delivered sometime today) otherwise I would seriously consider this guitar.
JimiH Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 What's up with the Hamer logo?Never seen one like that before with the tail of the R running off the black? The black edging also looks tatty, bad day at the shop?Geoff
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 What's up with the Hamer logo?Never seen one like that before with the tail of the R running off the black?GeoffThat's normal for the stadium logo. Both my Calis have the tail of the R running so far off the black you can't see the end of it, and my Chap has the tail going off the black (but not quite as far around).I think that's because the Cali headstock is slightly smaller or thinner than the Chap.
JimiH Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Ahhh okSurprised to see this from Hamer, looks cheap to me and easily sorted by making the logo smaller?A small detail maybe but comparing my diablo against it the diablo looks much much more professional.Which is what I expect from hamer. I'd still have it though!Geoff
cwgatti Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Cali is a better design. The logo hung over the black on all my Chaps & Calis.
John Hurtt Posted April 18, 2014 Author Posted April 18, 2014 Ouch! Tough watching my guitar get beat up...lol...For the record, the handful of USA Californians were all this way.
hamerhead Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Not to worry, John. I personally love just staring at the headstock instead of PLAYING THE DAMN THING.I'm pretty sure most of the six-on-a-side shredder-types with the stadium logo are like that, and it always looked just fine to me.
cmatthes Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Correct. I've never heard ANYBODY complain about the headstock before the example in this thread, so I'd ignore it.
