Nut material and tone, fretted notes affected?

Does the nut material affect the tone of fretted notes? Obviously it makes sense that open notes are affected by the nut material, but how about fretted notes? Logic says no, but purveyors of nuts and instruments claim otherwise. What say the experts here?

I'd be floored if they really do (and I'm talking more than 0.1%)! The contact point will be the fret and fretboard, with minimal vibration even occurring at the nut. Given that, how could the nut possibly contribute much in tone to a fretted note?

I think it ultimately comes down to preferences. Murkat likes to work with the nylon material Gibson used to use. On my older Hamers, I wasn't a fan of black Lubritrak, so I like aged bone for all my refret jobs. Others may prefer fossilized ivory.

I'm told a new trend is camel femur (!), the logic being that as pack animals, camels have really dense leg bones. Sure, whatever works for ya.

even the string being fretted, the nut material will have impact the tone, not much, but some.

also a big part of is neck pitch, break angle of, etc.

Unbleached bone looks cool. That's sufficient for me.
