Jem Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I use Fiebings leather dye on ebony, not sure what it'll look like on rosewood but note, you put it on. it won't come totally off so you'll be committed.
BadgerDave Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 The dye Jem mentioned is available at Stewart McDonald:http://www.stewmac.com/Materials_and_Supplies/Finishing_Supplies/Colors_and_Tints_and_Stains/Black_Fingerboard_Stain.htmlI've used it on rosewood with good results. You can control the effect by using light coats and wiping them off before the dye "sets". Won't stain real shell inlays, but will darken some plastics. Fender "clay" dots will absorb the dye.
Steve Haynie Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 I have a bottle of Stew-Mac fretboard oil stain I will send you. Send me your address in a PM.This stuff.
ptm1diver Posted March 1, 2015 Posted March 1, 2015 Just piss on the board and it will darken up. Or, I periodically use Bore Doctor and here is the link. http://www.beafifer.com/boredoctor.htm
BubbaVO Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Just piss on the board and it will darken up. Or, I periodically use Bore Doctor and here is the link. http://www.beafifer.com/boredoctor.htm Ditto. The rosewood board on my Mirage darkened up very nicely after a treatment of this stuff.
Hfan Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 I use that fret Dr stuff too.. I only use a little bit on a rag, rather than putting it directly on the board as they recommend. It has dawned on me that I have no idea what is in the stuff..secret formulation that it is. I wonder if it is mostly mineral oil which I heard is fine to use and a hell of a lot cheaper.Have read lots of cautionary tales of not over treating boards as the treatment can leach under the frets or something...some guys do it every string change..I usually do mine once when I acquire the guitar and then maybe just a tiny bit every year or two if that.

Fender "clay" dots will absorb the dye. This product can be thinned using alcohol, if that would help...
tobereeno Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 I think I'm a very confused person lately; I actually have a bottle of Fiebings....and then remembered why I got it a few years back. Found it last week when I started to reorganize my stuff, and more or less went nuts with it on almost everything Totally forgot I wrote this post too....
